To not tip the dominoes delivery driver?!

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 10/07/2025 18:46

They are soooo expensive. I’m assuming they are a big company so delivery drivers must get paid an hourly rate rather than delivery? But maybe I’m wrong?

should I be tipping? If so how much?!

Ill be honest the tip would tip me over the edge in terms of ridiculous prices and I’d just get pizza elsewhere.

No I object to tipping full stop. I work hard for minimum wage and no one tips me, why would they. We have a minimum wage for this very reason surely

GreenWheat · 11/07/2025 10:31

A delivery driver isn't providing any kind of discretionary, personal service. They don't really have the option to "go the extra mile" for me, they're just delivering things according to a schedule provided to them. That's their job and they are doing it. What would I be tipping for? It's not up to me to top up their salary - their employer should increase delivery costs if that's required.

Doingmybest12 · 11/07/2025 10:40

I never understand how people manage to tip, ours drop off at lightening speed ,I'd have to chase them up the road.

Outofthemoonlight · 11/07/2025 10:43

Maybe, if tipping the Dominos delivery driver is a real concern for you, you might be having too many Dominos pizzas…

So do I, in a supermarket. No one tips me. Many other minimum wage jobs are not tipped. I detest this inequality and rationale. Actually, come to think of it, the delivery drivers at our supermarket are on a higher hourly rate than the shop floor workers. I hope you don't tip them?

I'd agree with this. The vast majority of workers in the UK are working hard earning crap pay and nobody tips them. I've never understood why people seem to think certain job roles more worthy of a tip.
Deliveries are not exactly a difficult job are they there is nothing to think about you just collect a bag and drive it to a house there's no special skill involved.
Minimum wage these days is not that low it's gone up loads in recent years!!
People act like NO job should be a minimum wage job - come on you have to admit being a delivery driver clearly requires far less skill or responsibility than a nurse or teacher and often at the start of their career they aren't really on loads more money!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/07/2025 10:57

No - although we are a Papa John’s house! - but we always did when you paid cash on delivery instead of online.

sunseasex · 11/07/2025 10:59

If you can afford Dominos, you can surely throw the delivery guy £2? They are on minimum wage!

shoofly · 11/07/2025 11:03

Back in the day before sat nav and mobile phones (I am that old) I used to deliver pizzas. Tips were incredibly rare and it wasn't an easy job. I always tip £2 /£3. Based on the delight and surprise of the drivers I think it's not that common.
Mind you we don't order very often.

So am I, their customer. No one tips me.

Opplesandbononos · 11/07/2025 11:13

We don't get takeaway very often as we are in a small village and only have 2 takeaways that will deliver. However I use uber eats if I need a quick Asda shop and cant get there myself for whatever reason, I always tip £4, because im in a village, only 3ish drivers will take the job and it is further out of their way. I really appreciate the drivers who will take the job to deliver.

I don't tip amazon or normal food shop, but I offer most people that deliver something to my house a bottle of water or a can of drink when its hot. If they are still around 🤣

madaboutpurple · 11/07/2025 11:43

I always tip delivery people .I think they are more likely to be helpful if you do.

twilightcafe · 11/07/2025 11:45

'If you can afford Dominos, you can surely throw the delivery guy £2? They are on minimum wage!'

Hear, bloody hear!

An extra £2 is nothing in terms of what Domino's costs. The delivery folk are earning buttons.

Whatdoidotoday · 11/07/2025 13:32

Why Dominos only? Is that the one and only delivery you have around you? I use some delivery service on a daily basis, there is no way I’m tipping unless they are carrying something very heavy.

What do you mean? Once they bring something to your door what help do you need?

Favouritefruits · 11/07/2025 13:34

I used to tip when delivery was free but now I have to pay for delivery with domino’s I don’t.

nomas · 11/07/2025 13:36

Spypatrol · 10/07/2025 19:10

I do out of habit but no more than around £2. I do wonder if it's more insulting than thankful in this climate though

I always tip £1 (sometimes £2) for pizza, the drivers always appreciate it.

mondaytosunday · 11/07/2025 14:42

@Troubleclefare you kidding? Tipping is the reason they do it! They do get an hourly wage but tips are very welcome!

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 12/07/2025 00:03

Janeeyrre · 10/07/2025 19:03

Dominoes always seems to be on offer at my local one, half price?

But it’s not a real offer it half price still takes you to more than a normal take away pizza. And… it’s always ‘half price’.

You are probably correct on that front.

Because if it’s local I collect. Dominoes is further away but they have an app so sometimes easier to order. But when so much more expensive, it seems unreasonable to tip as well

anotherwordforit · 12/07/2025 00:13

I worked at dominos a few years ago and lots of people would tip the delivery drivers, they really appreciated it and got to keep all their tips.
Nowadays they seem to have added on a delivery charge so I’m guessing less customers are tipping and more money going direct to the company instead 🙄

Disturbia81 · 12/07/2025 00:17

You don’t have to tip anyone!

Steelworks · 12/07/2025 00:40

Never tip delivery drivers. Lots of people are on minimum wage - shop workers, doctor receptionists, etc should they be tipped also?
