Hi can someone help? Please. Came home tonight and found my cat just leaving the litter box. She was covered in blood and poo and in the litter she been but it was runny and blood in it. She then vomitted twice. Took the vet’s who couldn’t examine her due to her behaviour, so said come back tomorrow morning after she’s had some calming down meds. We came home and she’s tried to go the loo 3 times but nothing comes out except tiny amount of blood. I’m beside myself. Can anyone help?

Surely you need a new vet to deal with whatever is wrong with her now? As your current vet is not adequate.

I won’t be able to find a new surgery with it being the weekend. It would be the emergency vets which I will go to if she worsens. I’ll be seeing a different vet tomorrow then the one I saw today as she’s not working. I am
definitely going to move after this weekend.

My cat came in at bed time and there was blood on the floor. Not in his poo. I thought he’d been attacked but he had a blood clot and was having a heart attack. He was thrashing about all over the place. It was mid Covid and the vet saw him immediately. Didn’t matter that he was thrashing around and was hard to hold. He was sedated so vet with nurses help could examine him.

I’m so sorry this happened. Is your cat ok? Xx

It's already worsened, from your description. I would phone another OOH vets now and if they sound good get here straight down there.

I hope the vet finds out whats wrong and your baby makes a swift recovery. ❤

OP I am with pet plan and recently used their online/phone vet service for something very minor. They still advised to see my vet within 48hrs. For liability reasons and because of the blood etc I doubt they will put your mind at ease and say wait till tomorrow or Monday. So I would just go ahead and find the emergency vet.

It's possible it's some kind of gastro inflammation. Have you given new food recently or has anything else changed for your cat? Blood freaks us out and I wouldn't wait to get it checked but it's possible it's something very treatable.

Yes I gave her chicken out the packet from Lidl yesterday and today. She had upset stomach on Monday twice but then it settled until today.

If your with petplan that’s great. Give them a call back and say you aren’t getting the treatment you need

sorry you at gong through this. You can only hope the first vet wouldn’t have said what they said if critical but still isn’t good enough

I know. She really is herself as well. Shouting at me, flirt flopping to get her own way. I’m so angry at the vet for not treating her.

im calling pet plan now. I’ll update as soon as I can. Thanks so much everyone.

ive felt very alone tonight as my partner has a habit of being unfazed and said i was over dramatic for crying. So I’m not speaking to him at the moment really. You’ve all helped thank you xxx

Oh bless her, my cat had poop like that (no vomiting though) I found it happened when I gave her Whiskas pouches in gravy. I changed her food to Felix in Jelly and not had a problem since. Definitely try another vet though as even though it could be something simple like her food, it could be something serious so I'd take her to.a different vet see what they say.

How old is the cat op?

Does she go out? Could she gave caught a rat that's been poisoned? Very negligent of the vet to not think poisoning, sedate and keep in.

Puppylucky · 05/07/2025 08:43

My cat had bloody poo after trying to eat a slug 🤢. It cleared quite quickly with some probiotics but it's always best to check with a vet. We had to use the emergency vet as it was a bank holiday and I found they were better at handling my boy than some of our usual vets- maybe because they are dealing with distressed animals all the time.

Yes I gave her chicken out the packet from Lidl yesterday and today. She had upset stomach on Monday twice but then it settled until today.

A specialist gastroenterologist vet who treated one of my cats for pancreatitis advised me not to feed her chicken as it can cause inflammation, and chicken had to be totally irradicated from my cat's diet. I sourced single protein foods that did not contain chicken and that really helped.

Please still take your cat to the vet, a different vet, not the useless one you saw, and between now and seeing the vet, cut out chicken from your cat's diet completely.

Cats are expert at masking pain so while there might be no further signs at the moment, it doesn't mean there's nothing going on.

All the best for you and your cat. I hope you get some answers. There's nothing worse than not knowing what's wrong.

Twatalert · 05/07/2025 09:16

@CatAsstrophe can you tell me what you are feeding your cat now? I'm just looking for these too. My cat has just had a bad bout of diarrhea after feeding him a new food that was chicken. Tiny amounts but he reacted very badly. He's on a fish diet but his stool is slightly too soft and possibly that's too rich for him.

powershowerforanhour · 05/07/2025 09:28

I think the vet advised appropriately.

I solved my cat's digestive sensitivity with a non mainstream flavour complete dry food. So look for duck or something and see if that helps.

Which one exactly are you feeding? I thought of duck but then it's poultry and I'm not sure I wanna take the risk.

We feed Blink salmon dry in addition, which he tolerates well. im just looking for other ideas.

musicalfrog · 05/07/2025 09:54

This one @Twatalert

There are also hypoallergenic and anallergenic foods on the market if that doesn't work. Not cheap though!

It's something to do with the cat's ability to break down proteins.

She’s been the loo again and was bloody. Went for wee outside the litter and was also bloody. Waiting to go see our vet now. She seems calm.

No only our garden. She’s too timid. She goes in the garden whenever she wants weather and work permitting.

Tbh I thought the same as we’ve had rats in the garden before now

@Twatalert I fed Animonda Carny. Ingredients: Beef: beef (65%, meat, heart, liver, lung, udder, kidney), calcium carbonate, sodium chloride. Turkey: turkey* *(68% heart, liver, stomach, meat, necks), rapeseed oil, calcium carbonate, sodium chloride.

She was a bit miffed at first, but a crushed Thrive treat (salmon or tuna) sprinkled on top helped a lot.

You can get Animonda Carny from Zooplus and Bitiba. I use Bitiba for cat food and cat litter. It's cheaper than Zooplus.
