I just bought myself perfume for the first time in 7/8 years

Is that weird?

I always had a summer perfume (certain ones can remind of holidays/times in my life) and a winter one (also reminds me of certain times.

I’m not massively girly (not sure how to put it!) i do my own nails, rarely wear much make up these days, simple trim/cut at hairdressers. Buying it though, even though such a small thing, makes me feel happy and reminds me of the person I used to be before I had my Dd. Sounds dramatic probably! Its reminded me how important it is to do things for yourself/to look after yourself, i’m not sure why that happened when I had Dd 7 years ago

Anyway, I bought this and it feels like a little bit of luxury !

I know exactly what you mean. These little (expensive) pieces of self care can make the world of difference.

in fact you’ve inspired me to start doing more things like this.

DontTouchRoach · 04/07/2025 22:14

I love buying perfume for myself. Always cheers me up SO much.

Bronze Goddess is absolutely gorgeous,
especially for summer. It smells like a holiday to me.

Yanbu I am the same - funnily enough i also recently bought myself perfume after years

I got kayali vanilla and sol de janero vanilla - to layer together. They're better for winter

Keep on taking care of yourself girl, we're worth it xx

I need to keep doing little bits…somehow, I was beginning to feel I wasn’t a person anymore , weird as that sounds!

I love perfume, I have hundreds and tell myself I mustnt buy any more but then I always end up buying something because its gorgeous. Ive now got my eye on the Loccitane new lavender one, cant remember its name.

It’s lovely! Not had it before, but had a friend who had it a few years ago and I remembered it

I love this perfume. Enjoy! You deserve something just for you. Remember you cant pour from an empty cup x

Tryingtothinkofoneok · 04/07/2025 22:20

It feels indulgent because it’s not something I ‘Need’ just want…years ago I bought lots of things because I just wanted them

I know what you mean, I used to have several bottles on the go at once but now it feels hard to justify the cost. Might need to save up for some

justasking111 · 04/07/2025 22:46

Luckily I have two DILs who organise perfume for birthdays and Christmas. One bought me a gorgeous light perfume for summer wear. I wear perfume more often in the summer than the winter. Quick spritz, when I'm dressed even if I'm not going out is just lovely.

JMSA · 04/07/2025 23:11

Good for you! Zara perfumes are lovely and not too expensive. That feels like a nice treat to myself.

ShangriLaDiDah · 04/07/2025 23:33

maybe it’s a while since I last bought any perfume but it feels as if prices have taken a massive leap in the last few years? In my head a ‘nice’ bottle was about £50, whereas now £100+ seems the norm in Space NK.

Same here....I just bought perfume parlour copy of womanity. I have 2 perfume subscriptions despite having an entire bedside unit full of the stuff

JDM625 · 05/07/2025 00:13

Ok! Good for you. Not sure why you needed to post about it but glad you feel good!

mothra · 05/07/2025 00:24

Lovely. I bought a bottle of Aesop Marrakech last year - a Christmas present to myself. $170! I hadn't bought perfume for over 10 years. It gives me such a lift.

fireplaceembers · 05/07/2025 00:34

Next summer sun smells very similar if you wanted a little treat on top - they do a hand soap, hand cream, shower gel etc and often on 3 for 2!

Ooh is it good? I have half a bottle of womanity left and it’s one I wouldn’t want to be without!

Bloody hell I didnt know you could get perfume subscriptions, what are you telling me this for!!!

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 05/07/2025 06:03

Envious! Most perfume I find overpowering and can’t wear. I even struggle standing next to someone with a lot on.
on a VERY rare occasion I can handle a bit of clarins eau dynamisante

Muffsies · 05/07/2025 13:11

I'm similar to you, not a hair/makeup/nails person, but recently I have bought a few luxury things that just make me feel good/special. Kids are growing up and I've continued to work 2 jobs, so for the first time I have some spare income and feel able to treat myself.

One is really nice quality body lotion, I love the gentle jasmine and musk scent, and my skin looks so much healthier now. The other is a Chanel perfume (bought in sale), which I really love and feel I've now 'grown into' at 47. But the biggest luxury was a pair of diamond cluster earrings.. I'd never owned diamonds before (not married so I don't have an engagement ring), I just thought, sod it, I'm a grown up woman, I want some diamonds!!

TheChosenTwo · 05/07/2025 13:19

I love perfume, I don’t have loads because I’m really picky about what I like and also I don’t want any of it to go off!
my favourite one is I think about £220 a bottle but I pretty much wear it every day and I love it and it brings me a lot of happiness spritzing it on in the morning.
However I’ve got a couple of different ones that I do alternate with sometimes and dh just bought me the new Jo Malone raspberry ripple one as I wanted to go out and smell it today but not feeling 100%, he went out at lunchtime today to do some food shopping and came home with one for me, it’s lovely!
I’m all for little self care extravagances in life, they don’t have to be expensive but they do need to be just for you.

RosesAndHellebores · 05/07/2025 13:24

Good for you. You are worth it.
Was the Brinze Goddess half price? Estee have had some deals in Boots.

What perfume subscriptions do you have? I think I would like a perfume subscription!

AcademicallyAverageTeddy · 05/07/2025 13:37

I remember buying a necklace for myself for the first time after the financial battering of the nursery years.
I remember so well that moment of realising I was allowed to spend money on myself

I pay myself a bit of pocket money each month now to spend on things like perfume /jewellery etc
