To feel anxious about WW3

Loulabelle1234 · 25/06/2025 16:27

Just that really, not sure if it's just media hype or if we're really on the brink. I've also seen an article in the guardian about the safest place in the U.K. to live in the event of an atomic bomb, I mean WTAF!

OP posts:
vodkaredbullgirl · 25/06/2025 16:29

NOT HAPPENING

lightonmetal · 25/06/2025 16:29

There is not going to be WW3.

ninjahamster · 25/06/2025 16:30

Stop panicking, honestly, so many threads being started like this.

WW3 is not on its way,

MoriftedinaFrenchEscapeRoom · 25/06/2025 16:31

Don't be silly.

Loulabelle1234 · 25/06/2025 16:32

I hope not too!

Stop it. There's eleventy billion of these threads at the minute.

Judiezones · 25/06/2025 16:34

Don't read the Guardian comic, the Beano is much more cheerful and sensible.

greencartbluecart · 25/06/2025 16:35

There may or may not be a world war

it may or may not involve large civilian deaths in the uk

it may or may not involve conscription of our youth

whilst men solve their problems with violence
we have been here before
and we will be here again

alexalisten · 25/06/2025 16:36

It was only a few months ago we where panicking we where going to war because of Ukraine and Russia. There are always wars going on. No country wants ww3 to happen it costs to much.

VirginaGirl · 25/06/2025 16:45

WWIII is not imminent. I doubt it will ever happen.

BUT do be careful when using stairs. So many accidents happen on staircases. The things that you fear are not the things you need actually fear. Mundane, everyday things that don't make headline news.

This is actually so true life really does have a way of slapping you in the face when you least expect it.

clickbait

ellie09 · 25/06/2025 16:54

If WW3 does happen, it likely wont be war as you know it - boots on ground, missiles etc.

It'll be a drawn out trade war between countries, cyber attacks etc.

I totally agree with this. A friend's husband works in cyber-security and he has said this for many years.

KrisAkabusi · 25/06/2025 17:16

There is absolutely nothing you can do about it, so stop worrying.

BMW6 · 25/06/2025 17:23

Honestly OP I'm 67 and have been there, done that in the Fear stakes.

Absolutely no point in worrying or trying to plan where to go in the event. There would be nowhere "safe" to go, roads jammed, no flights no ships.

If you managed to get somewhere remote you'd be fighting - literally - for that haven with countless people. Even if you managed to get it you'd then be defending it endlessly.

And what are you going to drink? Eat? Grow?

How would you clean the air you breathe?

I'm not saying all this to frighten you, but to reassure you that the reason why MAD works is because no-one can possibly win.

Read "On the beach" by Neville Shute. Even Australia cops it though not a single atomic bomb is dropped in the entire southern hemisphere.

Turn off the news and take a break from it all.

iwillnotstaycalm · 25/06/2025 17:24

I think that it’s a valid fear and it doesn’t mean you are being unreasonable - so much social media and scare mongering at the moment no wonder you feel frightened !

I don’t am not worried about ww3. In all honesty there is so much of it that is totally out of a single persons control so worrying about it seems fruitless but I empathise with your anxiety

Please get a grip OP - maybe put a limit your news/ social media intake. You can’t trust what you read and see these days it’s mostly all media hype, propaganda or even worse AI generated. Just focus on what’s in your control and filter out the rest. If it happens it happens.

gamerchick · 25/06/2025 17:26

Im not going to say it's not going to happen. None of us plebs will know.

What I am going to say is stop letting the news and media into your life. Completely stop. It's better for the brain if we can just switch off from it.

Funnymushrooms · 25/06/2025 17:28

If it does happen I very much doubt it’ll be a nuclear war. More a war of disruption and suffering due to water/power cuts and problems with food/medications.

KS just wants to look powerful with all the nuclear talk, making warheads, buying planes that can carry nuclear weapons etc . Spending all the money on ‘defence’ and then ripping away support from the disabled . At the rate he’s going there won’t be many people left to defend.

Lingfield01 · 25/06/2025 17:30

I can’t believe the complacent ignorance here. We are lucky to have lived through an era where there has been no war but it isn’t guaranteed. I don’t think there is any reason to panic at the moment but neither do I believe we are immune.

I don't think anyone has suggested we are immune? Just that it's very VERY unlikely.

What would be the point? Everyone dead within a year or two. The earth would recover, perhaps some animals, but us? Not a hope.

Hoardasurass · 25/06/2025 17:47

@Loulabelle1234 I'm going to guess that your to young to remember the cold War when we were constantly under a greater threat of nuclear annihilation every day.
We were regularly at defcon 2 (all out imminent war is defcon 1) and occasionally at defcon 1 such as during the Cuban missile crisis.
We are currently sitting at level 3/4 depending on who you listen to.
Basically what I'm saying is stop worrying as it likely won't happen and if it does noone will survive it and if you live within 5 miles of a military Base, major city or important infrastructure you're in the vaporisation zone so won't know it happened.

susiedaisy1912 · 25/06/2025 17:51

Don’t panic. We go through this every few years.

Treeleaf11 · 25/06/2025 17:56

I don't wonder about all these similar threads. Nudging public thinking in a certain way.
