To feel anxious about WW3

Just that really, not sure if it's just media hype or if we're really on the brink. I've also seen an article in the guardian about the safest place in the U.K. to live in the event of an atomic bomb, I mean WTAF!

I can’t believe the complacent ignorance here

What can we do about it? What's the point of stressing oneself? Most people are busy enough working/raising families/living etc

schtompy · 25/06/2025 19:00

Anything you can’t control forget. Go live your life. The are always worries and what ifs, but you can’t live your life like that.

TennisMum75 · 26/06/2025 18:59

Stop watching the propaganda machine news…problem solved.

anon666 · 26/06/2025 19:12

I spent a good proportion of my childhood terrified to death about a nuclear holocaust. Which of course never happened.

If it comes, it comes, but I will be surprised. I think we dont know enough to make a judgement.

So live every day for what its worth.

There is not going to be WW3.

Pre WW2 a country could win wars and gain land and wealth.

In the nuclear age there would be no winner. Everyone would die. Massive difference.

restingbitchface30 · 26/06/2025 19:42

Its the media. But even if it did happen us mere mortals can’t change anything so why get anxious over it? It’s a waste of your energy and mental space.

I wasn't necessarily talking about nuclear war. We've already seen Russia and the US eyeing up bits of land that don't belong to them.

There are other countries waiting in the wings to make their gains if things kick off properly.

Chinsupmeloves · 26/06/2025 20:55

We've been through this scenario many times before, especially the cold war in the 1980s when as kids we had nightmares of nuclear bombs, and this was pre digital media!

It's very unlikely but if it happens we can't do much about it anyway. Just hope there is more than the 2 minute warning which I can still hear from the 1980s adverts.

I've not really seen this hype and I don't want to search to get myself worked up looking for it.

I guess it's sensible to keep stocks, candles etc at any time. Xxx

Don't be silly.

How is that "Silly"? It's petrifying the world we live in today. It's not as enjoyable anymore because there is a chance

Love how so many wear blinkers. Do you think the other countries at war Ukraine, Russia etc etc that the common people thought it would ever happen and they would be forced to flee. You can shut your eyes and ears to all that is brewing that's not propaganda and fact and continue to eat, drink and be merry or you can have some sort of wit about you for the just incase as the worlds anti brews and ups. I'm not even old and literally most of the town I live in had ideas of what to do, where to go, go bags prepped etc, not to scare monger but to just be ready for anything anytime

Whatafustercluck · 27/06/2025 05:19

What people are saying is that the current conditions are rape for a world war, because they are very similar to what has gone before. Lots of regional wars, a crazy man who threatens Europe, countries aligning with other countries' political or religious systems. They are warning us not to sleep walk into something bigger. I think we should be cautious. NATO's defence spending announcement is a big win. It shows that allied countries take the threat seriously. And while we definitely have some really power hungry world leaders at the moment intent on destabilising the status quo, we have many others who are being sensible, pragmatic and diplomatic.

Besides all of this, if Russia can create chaos from afar, interfering in elections, attacking infrastructure through cyber attacks etc, it doesn't actually need to put boots on the ground. There's another school of thought that we are already in WW3, it's just not what we've traditionally known as warfare. It's about destabilising social fabric to build a new world order.

The range and complexities of alliances are just too complex to enable the UK to align with anyone in particular (other than our European neighbours). We can't rely on the US as we have done, we have too much trade with China and improved relations, we're not too happy with Israel and are pulling away, we're diplomatic but cautious towards Iran, we have shared history with Pakistan and India. The only country we have real animosity towards is Russia. And Putin won't live forever. Hopefully.

spoonbillstretford · 27/06/2025 05:23

Kindly, it really is a pointless worry, OP. Even if it were going to happen there is bugger all we can do about it. Focus on the things you can control.

Goingbonkers247 · 27/06/2025 11:23

Honestly never thought we would be hit by covid. all I can say is we shouldn't be worrying about what may or may not happen. I'm sure we all have more imminent things to focus on. all the good things...family, pets, sunny days, we will all adjust.
Try and focus on all the great things life has to offer.

The thing is in a nuclear war nowhere will be safe. Even in a conventional war its the idiots trying to carry all their shit that get shot.
In the event of war you don't just run for the hills etc, you stay put until ordered to evacuate and then go where your told with a bag with your id, a change of clothes, some snacks, wwater and maybe a 1st aid kit. And let's be honest none or that needs to be packed until the outbreak of war or invasion of the country you are in.
Honestly where do you think would be safe if we're invaded or being bombed?
Having had the misfortune of having been in a country when everything went to shit I really do chuckle at prepers like you who think everyone just getting on with life have their heads in the sand when in reality rather than those who flee to places they have designated safe areas are just making a bigger target of themselves because they will be fighting off all the other prepers and the invading forces.
Your generation need to learn not to be afraid of what may never happen before it does, living in a constant state of fear isn't healthy, if it happens we deal with it then otherwise just live life as normal like we did and still do
