Wet or dry hair cut?

QueenofGW · 20/06/2025 17:42

I am currently at a new hairdressers getting a colour and cut.
Not sure if it’s relevant I have just below shoulder length fine hair with a few layers.
My colour has just been washed out and the hairdresser said I’ll just blow dry then some one else will cut your hair.
Now I thought it was normal (all except 1 occasion) in my 44 years I have always had my hair cut wet.
Im also worried that the hairdresser coming to cut my hair has not seen it or discussed the style with me when I came in. I thought I was just having 1 hairdresser.
Ive asked for a wet cut (I want it styled and shaped a bit).
My experience is 1 hairdresser, wet cut, blow dry then tidy up with scissors.
Feeling daft sitting here waiting.

I have been with my hairdresser for over 30 years and my mother was with hers for over 50 years. Wet cut and tidy up afterwards (we both have very fine hair). Might be different if you have thick hair, but I am no expert.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 20/06/2025 18:37

They'll spray it with water to dampen it again. Happened to me a few times. I have fine hair too and it'll come out the same.

humptydumptyfelloff · 20/06/2025 18:40

Not good op if they haven’t had a consultation with you before the colour being done so they can see how you wear it and what it does naturally.

Hope it went ok.

My hairdresser is the first I’ve ever had in 40 years that colours, dries and then cuts my hair. How did it turn out OP?

WinterNightStars · 20/06/2025 19:05

Spray & cut, dry it & tidy any stray bits

QueenofGW · 20/06/2025 19:05

Well I’m in a bit of a dilemma.
The colour is lovely, the cut looks like she has hacked at it. I’ll try and post a pic.

Would love a professional advice. I’m devastated with the cut.

Bloody hell! That's a dreadful cut 😡 I'd go back and complain! Or at least go somewhere else and get them to tidy it up

justasking111 · 20/06/2025 23:47

Jakers that's terrible. Go back

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 20/06/2025 23:50

Holy hacksaws - that’s bad. Is that really how it’s been cut ?I’m so sorry

Frostynoman · 20/06/2025 23:53

Did you need to pay extra for them not to use garden shears? Go back, that’s terrible

PickAChew · 20/06/2025 23:54

I would be devastated, too. It's really been hacked at. 😮

I wouldn't trust them to put it right but I would want a refund for the cut.

ThisGutsyBalonz · 20/06/2025 23:59

Awful.

I always get a dry cut. Thick hair. Wavy. Always changes after drying, therefore they wash, dry, straighten and cut.

QueenofGW · 21/06/2025 00:22

Thank you for the replies I really appreciate it.
I’m not a natural complainer,but I am really annoyed.
just wanted to check I am justified.
I’m so annoyed.

I have my hair highlighted, cut ,dried then a tidy up when dry.

I would go back to the salon and ask for a refund as I wouldn't trust them near my hair again. Go elsewhere OP, you have enough hair for it to be done again properly .

QueenofGW · 21/06/2025 12:21

I really hate complaining. It does not come naturally to me at all.
I emailed the salon last night with pictures.
The owner called me this morning and has asked me to come in this afternoon.
I’m really anxious about going in, but it does need fixed.
I also know my hair will probably have to be cut shorter to sort this which I really do not want.
Has anyone got any advice on how I should handle things when I get there?
Thanks.

Work out what do you want.

Money or for it to be sorted?

If you haven't already washed your hair than it sometimes takes a few washes to settle in.

The cut isn't great, so they will be embarrassed.

Just laugh about it, don't be angry.

ThisGutsyBalonz · 21/06/2025 13:00

Say you don't want any of the length of if possible.

I would perhaps ask to come back in a few weeks for a free hair cut and wash to sort it out

justasking111 · 21/06/2025 13:07

They're going to have to even it out which means more cutting and a restyle. @QueenofGW your hair will be shorter than you want I'm afraid whoever you use.

DontTouchRoach · 21/06/2025 13:16

My hairdresser cuts my hair wet, dries it to check how it falls, and then cuts a little more when it’s dry to finish.

I’m absolutely appalled at what they’ve done to your hair. That’s shocking. Did they let an untrained apprentice do it or something? It genuinely doesn’t look like a professional cut.
