Best before Feb 25

What do you say to that?

I’ve still got florentines cheese straws and two Easter eggs to eat !

Summerhillsquare · 17/06/2025 17:26

Jealous Smile

TimeForATerf · 17/06/2025 17:26

I would question whether it was dry? I eat my Christmas cake well into the next year and our Christmas puddings are always about two years out of date, maybe longer.

Stollen is a funny one, the cake bit isn’t really that moist is it?

how was it?

randomchap · 17/06/2025 17:46

How do you have any left? If I have some in the house it gets eaten

Desperatelyseekingreason · 17/06/2025 18:03

We have just demolished our Panettone. It was lush. Also have an Easter egg left. All bought as post Christmas/Easter bargains.

I wish Christmas stollen would last that long in this house 😂

BCBird · 17/06/2025 20:05

About to have an 🍎. Got food envy 😫

SwedishEdith · 17/06/2025 20:07

I spotted some mince pies in a cupboard the other day.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 17/06/2025 20:08

Erm, well done.

cariadlet · 17/06/2025 20:38

At the weekend, I finished off a bottle of wine that I'd opened for Christmas dinner. I thought it would probably taste a bit funny after so long but it was really nice.

TheTecknician · 17/06/2025 21:32

Dry stollen - or anything similar - can probably be sliced and toasted under the grill. Then liberally buttered and served with a cheese of your choice.

curtaintwitcher78 · 17/06/2025 21:34

Ate balsamic glaze with a BBE date of Feb 2025 today. I'd already put it on my salad when I saw it and there's no way I was chucking it out. So far I'm alive. Hopefully we'll be ok 🤣

SocialEvent · 17/06/2025 21:35

OP you’ve outdone the fabled Mumsnet chicken, I really did not expect to read this in June.
How big was this Stollen, back in December?

arabellacanella · 17/06/2025 21:39

Send me some please! I LOVE the stuff

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/06/2025 21:41

I’m jealous. I love the stuff and wish it was for sale all year round like Hot Cross buns!

How much did you buy?! Ours lasted until the end of January which I was impressed with.

Ferro · 17/06/2025 21:45

Stollen matures much like Christmas cake and ideally should be at least a few weeks old when you eat it. I've never had a vintage one but it wouldn't surprise me if it was still fine after a year.

Im half way through this packet (had another square today) and then I'll be on to another packet which I have squirreled away in the cupboard.

OH wont eat anything past the use by/BBE date so Im eating it all myself

I noticed they were reduced in Marks near the BBE date. I dont take any notice of that so I was elbows out, pushing past the crowds and throwing tons of it in the basket. No shame whatsoever.

This was back in Feb.

We ate most of it and then the other day I noticed I still had some. Bonus!!!

Well Ive still got mince pies,, pate, mince pie flavoured cream and xmas pudding to get through for the next 6 months before I start again

Any of those take your fancy?

Oh and stuffing, lots and lots of fancy stuffings. Yum.

I still have half a home made stollen (large one) in the fridge not to mention a lot of the biscuits I make. They all get better with age if they are kept in an air tight container. The stollen is kept in the fridge due to the homemade marzipan in the centre

soupyspoon · 18/06/2025 22:17

Home made stollen?

Now you're talking, recipe please?
