Mini cooper convertible

DH and I are having an argument.
Booking a car for our holiday. DH wants to hire a Mini Cooper One convertible.
We are 4 adults, one who is 6ft3 tall.
I think we won't fit in, but DH is adamant we will, because the Mini web site says it fits "4 friends".
I pulled up next to one at some traffic lights yesterday and the back seats looked practically non existent!
Does anyone actually own one and can settle this please?
Thank you.

Ok for short journeys, rear of a mini is very uncomfortable. Not so bad in a 5 door but you can't get the convertible in that config.

Anyone that isn't a child would find it uncomfortable

rbe78 · 17/06/2025 16:14

No you won't all fit, sorry. They're great fun, and we had one as a second car for a couple of years - but once the kids were about twelve we had to get rid as they no longer fit in the back.

Locutus2000 · 17/06/2025 16:55

Bluntly they are fucking tiny and the rear seats only fit for kids or shopping.

Change it asap as you will be absolutely miserable in it. Do they not have a bigger soft top?

NotMeNoNo · 17/06/2025 17:13

We are looking at buying a Mini. Totally unsuitable for 4 adults unless they are all tiny. Plus the roof takes up most of the boot of the convertible. You won’t be able to drive it out of the hire depot.

I have one, and you can’t fit 2 adults in the back. 2 teens is a struggle

Good point pp made about the aircon too.
With the hood down, they'll be no aircon, with the hood up, DS won't fit in.
Arshole. He's based his decision purely on the MINI advertising.

aircon still works with the roof off

FatherFrosty · 17/06/2025 17:26

every clubman or countryman I’ve ever sold (motortrade) has gone to someone who has a mini and needs space for actual humans in the back.

you won’t all fit. Let alone with any luggage

Mistyglade · 17/06/2025 17:26

I’ve owned a mini converted for year. There’s no way 4 adults will be comfortable.

Also, has he thought about boot size? You won’t have room for more than a few bags.

TizerorFizz · 17/06/2025 17:52

I had the original one. The 2025 version is bigger. I’ve attached pix and the review from Car Magazine. It’s still only got room for 2 small adults in the back and seeing out is compromised with the roof up. It’s a cute car and pretty well suited for holiday driving (except ride over potholes!) but not for 4 good sized adults. Maybe DH thinks it’s for him and you?

It'll be a clown car!

Silly DH.

NotGalinda · 17/06/2025 17:55

i had one, my 6 foot husband could barely fit in the front, never mind the back. I couldn't get 2 small teenagers in the back for anything more than a 30 min journey it was too uncomfortable

JoshLymanSwagger · 17/06/2025 18:02

Make sure you pack a curly wig and a red nose for your DH.

He's a 🤡

Cowbellsaringing · 17/06/2025 18:14

I have one the room in the back is tiny. My son who is 6ft can not fit in the back. Even the girls hate being in the back and they are just over 5ft. Say you will hire it if he sits in the back. Honestly a Fiat 500 has more room behind than the mini

Respectfully, it's the metaphorical equivalent of trying to warm yourself up on a cold day by having a mouse cough on you with the roof down...

Aniceempirebiscuitandacupoftea · 17/06/2025 18:23

I have recently got a 5 door Cooper and I love it. The convertibles I’ve seen about are 3 door and apparently 3 doors minis are essentially 2 seaters.

My dad however recalls him and his brother going on holiday in their parents’ original 1950s mini.

Ihateboris · 17/06/2025 18:51

I've got a Mini Convertible..I've never had any passengers in the back, it's just about big enough for some shopping bags. Four adults will look quite comical...please please post some pics of you all squeezed in 🤣🤣🤣

Ha ha ha 😂 🤣...this made me laugh 😃..very true

StartingOverInMy40s · 17/06/2025 19:23

Not a chance is anyone sitting behind your son if he’s in the front seat. It’s not that it’ll be a squash, it will be impossible. Sorry 😒

Exasperateddonut · 17/06/2025 19:30

It’s so small in the back you can’t comfortably get a kid in a car seat let alone an adult with long legs. The boot is more of a shoe box.

What a narna he’s been.

Ireolu · 17/06/2025 19:35

I had one. We got rid of it when I became pregnant. It's too small and was told at BMW that it doesn't come with AC as standard (this was in 2011 though) so when hot it was Sun roof effect or roof fully down. Nice car but don't miss it much

Okiedokie123 · 17/06/2025 21:18

My friend has got one (standard, no sunroof). We are all shorties (5ft3 ish). Yes four of us adults fit in it but its a squish.

Best bet - tie your sons to the roof. Or put them in a trailer lol. No way are they going to fit and even if they do..... they wont be at all comfortable.

Figcherry · 17/06/2025 21:23

People in hot countries don’t really use convertibles.
You need a decent sized car with good air con.

kielifor · 17/06/2025 21:43

My 6'4" DS has a mini and fits fine as the driver but no way he could fold himself up in the back seat.
Couldn't you put DC down as driver? We did that on a family holiday when DS was 21. It was Spain not Greece though.
To be honest for Greece I'd want a big car with serious Aircon. You get burnt to a crisp in a convertable

TizerorFizz · 17/06/2025 21:46

@blanketsnuggler I suspect most people posting aren’t driving the brand new version. However the hire company might not have it either. It is bigger than previous models but it’s small and of course no air conditioning with the roof down!

Molly499 · 17/06/2025 21:56

The newer ones are much bigger but, this won't be a cheap car to hire and there will be so many better options. It will be too hot to have the roof down, get him to change the car.
