Iris Photography - creepy or amazing?

Sunshineismyfavourite · 13/06/2025 21:26

I have noticed more and more ads for iris photography. I find it really quite gross and creepy - am I missing something?

You can get a photo of your eye ball intertwined with the eyeball of your partner or child. You can even have your eyeball photo made into a lovely piece of jewellery. 😕

What do you think?

YABU It's beautiful and the OP is a philistine

YANBU It's gross and makes me worry about what's next - a photo of your inner ear - or worse?

There are loads of places out there now who do it. Link in case you're intrigued!

I was recently in Amsterdam and saw two shops for Iris Photogrpahy and thought it was odd, didn't realise it was in the UK too.

DustyTangerine · 13/06/2025 21:38

I really like it but some brown eyes look really odd

Meetmeundertheclock · 13/06/2025 21:39

Interesting like those pictures of peacock feathers were. They are not art though. Just an image reliant on equipment.

AmyDuPlantier · 13/06/2025 21:40

I think it’s more just a massive who cares…this is what our eyeballs look like together? So what? What do you big toes or elbows or chins look like together?

Its just a load of crap.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/06/2025 21:46

DH and I were going to have this done on a cruise (I don;t like having my photo taken ) but we didn't get round to it .
I think the idea of it , my eyes are hazel/brown, his are grey/green so they'd look snazzy .

Dontlletmedownbruce · 13/06/2025 21:46

Jesus No!!! I clicked into this out of curiosity and am so disgusted. That picture is awful.

I also hate that thing they do in ads all the time where the camera seems to zoom in closer and closer into someone's eye then through the pupil, while they eat yoghurt or whatever. Freaks the hell out of me.

PlayDoh135 · 13/06/2025 22:03

Unappealing nonsensical crap.

springbl0ssoms · 13/06/2025 22:11

I think the photos of an individual iris are stunning. Not keen on them being smooshed together though.

Looks like exploding Fruit Polos
(are they still a thing? 🤔)

XenoBitch · 13/06/2025 22:29

I think the putting them together like planets colliding is a bit weird. But the iris is a beautiful structure, so YABU on that count.

Dramatic · 13/06/2025 22:31

I like it 🤷

baggybags · 13/06/2025 22:36

Why would you bother? It's not even nice to look at 😁

noworklifebalance · 13/06/2025 22:40

I like it - not merged but separate.

Why bother? Well you can say that of any type of photography, art. All essentially pointless other than to give some people enjoyment and pleasure.
As PP says, eyes are pretty amazing and each is unique. So why not?

Knnniggets · 13/06/2025 22:40

Aren't irises biometric markers? If yes I'd question the wisdom of getting this done where you can't be sure what they do with the image.

We leave our fingerprints all over the place. And if someone really wanted to, they probably could get your iris off an instagram or fb photo. Having said that, I don’t think it can be copied even from a high quality photo and then used.

I will be no more worried about that than I am about hairdressers keeping my hair for the DNA.

McCartneyOnTheHeath · 13/06/2025 22:48

How do you know it's your actual eye you're getting a picture of? You could show me a photo of any bluey-grey iris, tell me it was mine and I'd believe you!

TempestTost · 13/06/2025 22:48

It seems a bit dumb.

steff13 · 13/06/2025 22:51

I think irises are fascinating.

DeSoleil · 13/06/2025 22:57

Whilst the actual photographs are interesting, to have them made up as some kind of romantic keepsake is horrible.

JasmineAllen · 13/06/2025 22:58

I've never heard of it apart from inspecting the iris for health reasons but I'm looking at the image in greyscale and it looks like 2 pineapple rings 😂

RubyHiker · 13/06/2025 23:00

I think they are beautiful but I have centralized heterochromia so I've always found eye colour fascinating close up because mine is so many different colours depending on lighting.

Catladywithoutacat · 13/06/2025 23:01

Beautiful especially when painted

MrsMAFs · 13/06/2025 23:01

I had my child's done. They have an interesting iris. Blue with a big green fleck running through it. I love it. Looks interesting on the wall.

Sprinklesandsprinkles · 13/06/2025 23:02

I like them! With each eye separate though. My DS has some really unique patterning in one of his iris's and I'd love to get it captured when he's old enough. I have dark brown eyes and it would be nice to see the actual details, definitely plan to get a print of all the family when we can
