Singing on the job

Nerissa44 · 12/06/2025 20:46

Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. An electrician has been working at my home over the last two days to help with rewiring. Yesterday my partner and I were both working from home, and while we chatted with him a bit, for the most part he did his work and left. I love singing, and was singing in the afternoon around the house. He complimented my singing a couple of times.

Today, my partner worked from the office and was not at home. The electrician showed up 3.5 hours late with no apology, and then proceeded to spend the afternoon singing very loudly while he worked. He also kept singing the words "Let's get physical" over and over.
Not sure if this is a real song or not, but I felt really weird and a bit creeped out. I wanted to say something but didn't manage to and feel a bit of an idiot about it. Am I overthinking this or being unreasonable for feeling this is inappropriate?

Thanks.

Yes there is an Olivia NJ song which repeatedly has those lyrics. Probably got that in his head

I know i ive got a song in my head i find myself singing the same line over and over without even realising

missmollygreen · 12/06/2025 20:53

It was probably on the radio in the van on the way over.

You are totally over thinking this, Yabu

skippy67 · 12/06/2025 20:53

YABU. "Physical" is a classic!

millymoo1202 · 12/06/2025 20:55

Why did you not just say we’re working so if you don’t mind keep it down a bit , quite easy

Oddsocksanduglyshoes · 12/06/2025 20:56

Did he know your husband wouldn’t be there today?

VainAbigail · 12/06/2025 20:56

🎶 “Let's get physical
Lights out, follow the noise
Baby, keep on dancing like you ain't got a choice” 🎶

You should ask him if he likes Dua Lipa and then us know the outcome on your 2nd ever post.

Nerissa44 · 12/06/2025 21:00

Yes he knew my partner was not at home. (Is there a reply function to respond to specific posts?)

FFS I’m going to have this stuck in my head all week now 😂🫠

It wouldn’t bother me (mainly because I’ve worked with guys in the trades before) - and that is the line the choruses work up to so even if you didn’t have much of it stuck in your head it might be that bit over and over!

Nerissa44 · 12/06/2025 21:06

In reply to millymoo you're right, I wish I had. I was just a bit taken back at first, and then felt too uncomfortable to say anything.

You either click the three little dots on a post and click Quote, this will then make the reply look like what mine does now. Replying to a specific comment. Or you can press the @ button and a list of all those who have commented on the thread come up, just choose the one you want to reply to and it tags them so they receive a notification. Like this .. @Nerissa44:)

A quick Google would’ve told you that was indeed a real song and now I’m singing it.

Did you think he was suggesting you have sex with him? 😂😂

DaisyChain505 · 12/06/2025 21:15

Tradesmen being late is a tale as old as time I wouldn’t worry about that part.

Being an Olivia Newton John fan….now that’s something to be worried about.

Redpeach · 12/06/2025 21:30

If its olivia newton john songs, then 'you're the one that i want' is more fitting....., 'cos the power you're supplying, it's electrifying'

pinkdelight · 12/06/2025 21:32

I thought this was going to be a discussion of singing 'on the job'! Disappointed.

PeapodMcgee · 12/06/2025 21:36

Aww, your own singing gave him permission to shine! Sounds like a closeted showman. Harmless.

Aniceempirebiscuitandacupoftea · 12/06/2025 21:37

Olivia Newton John and Dua Lipa songs. I love them both.

Yes, I thought we were going to have a good laugh. 😁

Lmnop22 · 12/06/2025 21:59

Why is you’re allowed to sing but he isn’t?

southerngirl10 · 12/06/2025 22:01

If he sings it tomorrow you'll know it wasn't just about the song in his head. No one gets a song stuck in their head two days in a row, do they?

BatchCookBabe · 12/06/2025 22:04

Which 'let's get physical' was it? Olivia Newton John or Dua Lipa?

Misses point of thread.......

Nerissa44 · 12/06/2025 22:05

Right thanks folks. I did NOT know it was an actual song, and it's really good to have that cleared up!

I sing plenty at home but I wouldn't typically sing loudly where I work, as it just feels unprofessional. And considering the British obsession with punctuality, I'm genuinely surprised to learn that it's normal /accepted for tradespeople to be that late?!

You learn something new everyday!

Some of these responses made me laugh, so thanks for that.

This post is all that is wrong in the world today
1 why didn't the op Google the song....no
2 she felt she had to post on social media
3 the fact that the spark was openly saying he wanted to have sex with the op or rather that's the first thing she thought, as if that's all men think of when it comes to the op
4 that the spark was ok turning up late
5 that the op didn't even jokingly say "sing something else for fuck sake" but was "taken aback" (actually is this Jane Austen posting?)
6 that the op didn't know one of the biggest hit records of all time.

SapporoBaby · 12/06/2025 22:14

That’s a very real and well known song. Seems like he was just copying you singing in the house. Personally I find it bizarre that you were singing so much that the electrician commented on it several times.
