Singing on the job

Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. An electrician has been working at my home over the last two days to help with rewiring. Yesterday my partner and I were both working from home, and while we chatted with him a bit, for the most part he did his work and left. I love singing, and was singing in the afternoon around the house. He complimented my singing a couple of times.

Today, my partner worked from the office and was not at home. The electrician showed up 3.5 hours late with no apology, and then proceeded to spend the afternoon singing very loudly while he worked. He also kept singing the words "Let's get physical" over and over.
Not sure if this is a real song or not, but I felt really weird and a bit creeped out. I wanted to say something but didn't manage to and feel a bit of an idiot about it. Am I overthinking this or being unreasonable for feeling this is inappropriate?

Thanks.

Right thanks folks. I did NOT know it was an actual song, and it's really good to have that cleared up!

I sing plenty at home but I wouldn't typically sing loudly where I work, as it just feels unprofessional. And considering the British obsession with punctuality, I'm genuinely surprised to learn that it's normal /accepted for tradespeople to be that late?!

You learn something new everyday!

Some of these responses made me laugh, so thanks for that.

Did you think the guy was just making it up as he went along? 😆

I must admit, I was a bit disappointed too by the threat title, I was thinking your DH was belting out 'Tell Me On a Sunday' or other Andrew Lloyd Webber variations during intimate moments or something like that, lol...😆

It is your house s just tell him you like some quiet and that your husband works from home

Sounds like a real knob, as though he really fancies himself and is a definite Britains Got Talent Wannabee

If doesn't get it Report him to his boss.
Or get your husband to tell him to shut up.

I live on a Social Housing Estate in a small block of flats. Over Fifties

So we have workmen around all the time. And tenants just tell them to be quiet when paying music or singing and havig very loud banter sessions. Ho Ho Ho!

My own pet hate are taxi drivers erc having music or the radio on top blast during a journey.

Even had an argument with a Ring and Ride Driver who said if driver's wanted to listen to the radio at loud volume they could do

They had every right to do so at any volume and it didn't matter what the passenger thought.

Grade One Arsehole.!!!

In the interim get a pair if ear plugs
Boots do really good wax ones

I thought this was going to be a discussion of singing 'on the job'! Disappointed.

so did I! am also disappointed. was wondering who did the singing, OP or her partner!

mamaandbabas · 13/06/2025 22:21

This reminds me when my oldest daughter had her 5th birthday party and I told the DJ she liked Rihanna and on came

mamaandbabas · 13/06/2025 22:29

Ohh he was defo coming on to you😂. This reminds me when my DD was 5 and she wanted a Rihanna song played at her party. The husband N wife party entertainers thought it was legit to play her S N M song (whips and chains excite me). I knew straight away it was inappropriate, but never said anything, as everyone else seemed oblivious 😂

Ahh Dua Lipa - Let's Get Physical Work Out song. It’s the best version of the song especially when played at a gym full blast.

Yes, I thought it was going to be an AIBU about colleagues appearing not to appreciate the OP’s powerful soprano rendition of ‘Defying Gravity’ reverberating around the open-plan office.

If its olivia newton john songs, then 'you're the one that i want' is more fitting....., 'cos the power you're supplying, it's electrifying'

😂😂, absolutely!

LetIt · 14/06/2025 05:11

How have you have come across or heard the song “Physical”? It’s really really well known and used in loads of films/TV and ads.

You sound like a joy to be around Confused

The day I become so intolerant I hope someone puts me out of my misery.

(Also, it doesn't actually work for OP to tell him she likes some quiet when she spent the previous day singing herself.)

Delphiniumandlupins · 15/06/2025 03:59

Showing my age I know the ONJ song not the Dua Lipa. I would have queried why he was so late. Not sure you can complain about him singing when you do the same, maybe get your own music on first tomorrow?

BananaSqueezer · 15/06/2025 04:40

To be fair, if you were constantly singing while I was trying to concentrate and do a job - even if it was your house - it would really get on my tits. Maybe he was retaliation-singing.
