Raw mushrooms in a salad

When I was a kid, I seem to remember adults eating salads made of finely sliced raw mushrooms. Absolutely revolting.

does anyone else remember this or was it just my family? Maybe you eat them now?

I eat a ton of raw mushrooms, though I prefer chunks to slices. Can't see the problem.

I have a great recipe for mushrooms marinated in a minty vinaigrette. They are yum.

Raw button mushrooms are fine. Pretty tasteless sliced.

I make salads with raw mushrooms, but as with raw courgettes, salt them (which breaks them down and softens them) and then squeeze the water out before dressing them so they’re not bland and crunchy. Perhaps whoever made your salads missed that step?

Love raw mushrooms. DH learnt many years ago if he's ever cooking with mushrooms to make sure he slices an extra one for me to steal

I like them too, almost nutty and I like the texture.

Yeah I like them, my daughter does too. Have to stop her eating them when I'm cooking or there wouldn't be any left.

It’s not my absolute favourite but I’d say raw mushrooms in a salad are fine. I think it’s reasonably common to see them in pre made salads you see in the shops?

Raw mushrooms are divine. You are clearly totally and utterly unreasonable.

Raw (and fresh!) closed cup mushrooms are the only kind I can eat. Cooked mushrooms are the devil's work.

I think they’re lovely in a salad! To be fair I hadn’t tried it until I saw it at a salad bar, but they add a lovely bit of crunch and are pretty filling.
I would eat the little pickled ones you get in Italy to a band playing.

Yes, mum always used to put raw mushrooms in salad sometimes. Lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, slices of raw green pepper. Dolop of mayonnaise on the side.

Dh says raw mushrooms are not safe to eat but the ones from supermarkets are fine.

I love raw mushrooms eaten with raw tofu. Texture sensation!

Am I the only person who has literally never heard of anyone eating raw mushrooms?!

I voted YANBU but feel like I want to try again with raw mushrooms because I love them cooked so much. Last time I tried raw they were grim.

Raw mushrooms in a salad definitely but no dressing until you are about to eat it. Love peeling raw mushrooms too.

Love a raw mushroom. Not eaten one for years for some reason but used to have them in a 'salad' when I was about 9 and left to make tea for myself and siblings.

Chopped apple, raw mushroom, grapes, jacobs cream crackers a laughing cow triangle and cheddar cheese. Every Tuesday night. Might not be your traditional meal but contained 3 of the 5 a day, protein and carbohydrates. A well balanced plate!

🍄 I love raw mushrooms too, but I read recently that they aren’t good for you, so don’t eat them anymore ☹️. I may be wrong though. Everything in moderation, I guess.
