To be unsettled with current day time tv adverts

ThePunnyPeachDuck · 09/06/2025 21:32

I am miffed by the ads on tv these days, they are not allowed to put a ad on about chocolate or crumpets as the children need to be protected but they can put filth like this on during the day so my young children can watch it.

Is it just me?

Exactly. The pseudo snobbery is ridiculous.

We all poo, wee, smell, sweat and everything else

It's not like they show us a shit in a bowl

Sometimeinadifferentworld · 09/06/2025 21:50

Dangermoo · 09/06/2025 21:46

So don't watch then.

@nomas
asked whether people were offended by the advert and posted a link.

So I watched it because that's the only way I could answer the question. I'd never seen it before.

And yes it was offensive so I won't be watching it again.

WildNorthEast · 09/06/2025 21:43

@reversegear I thought it was just me that finds it disgusting. Makes me feel sick, someone blowing their (I imagine) hot stinky breath on the poor worker - absolutely vile.

God no I find it so gross I have to turn it off or leave the room, I can smell it… it’s all warm and gross and so badly filmed.

Oh and generally the fact women appear to pee themselves on a regular basis! The adverts are just awful.

I'm not saying I want to see this but why is it never men in these adverts?

Dangermoo · 09/06/2025 21:51

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 09/06/2025 21:48

I laughed out loud at the lower body spray advert. It's subversive. We're not supposed to think about our clammy crevices and how other people sometimes end up closer to them than we'd like them to be.

I like the Andrex adverts too. Needing a poo at work means a lot more to me than puppies leaping around.

Bonus for me was the need for a poo with cute lab pup looking on. Goodness knows how the pearl clutchers managed when the ad was out with little boy insisting on doing his poo at Paul's house 😆 🤣

EllyRoff · 09/06/2025 21:52

you Know when a song gets stuck in your head? I had the pepto bismol advert stuck in my head once and I was happily walking around singing “diarrhoea….aaaa!”

i think i even did the little bum lift at one point too. Bloody catchy adverts

This advert was my first though when I saw this thread

God yes. I was singing diarrhoea-uggghh for weeks. Good advert, I hadn't thought about Pepto-Bismol for years and now I have a bottle in the cabinet.

DontTouchRoach · 09/06/2025 21:54

I’m sorry, but if you think this is ‘filth’ and harmful for young children, you must have been beamed here straight from a community of 17th century Puritans.

Oh that's good then. 👍

MidnightMeltdown · 09/06/2025 22:02

I thought this was going to be one of those threads where someone was being overly precious but I’m actually quite shocked by those adds. First one appears to have been dreamt up by a 15 year old schoolboy boy!

Dangermoo · 09/06/2025 21:55

I don't know what's good about it.

I remember when adverts used to be sometimes clever, sometimes interesting and sometimes amusing. And some of the catch phrases from adverts 20 and 30 years ago still pop up my head - Beanz meanz heinz, Good things come to those who wait etc etc.

And now things have degenerated to the point where the adverts are so bad, so gross, and offensive , a lot of people can't stand to watch them. It doesn't sound like progress to me.

sunnywithtsunamis · 09/06/2025 22:07

and they all do yoga...

I must admit I do miss the 80s adverts. Agree with you there. In fact, I recently watched a compilation of them on You Tube. I think with the Andrex one, it's a brave thing to do. It will certainly make kids laugh. Maybe get the family talking about the topic of not making kids feel ashamed about bodily functions. 🤷

LotusFlower24 · 09/06/2025 22:48

Thanks for this..gave me a good laugh! I had never seen the Andrex advert before now😂I work in a school and now I know why some classes stink terribly sometimes, must be all those kids holding in their poo!

reversegear · 09/06/2025 21:40

Drives me insane that it’s now assumed that all women over 40 pee themselves on a regular basis

TaupeMember · 09/06/2025 23:01

More annoyed by ads for the channel 4 programme where virgins are seduced by sex counsellors popping up while watching countdown with young kids 🙄

BogRollBOGOF · 09/06/2025 23:09

Sometimeinadifferentworld · 09/06/2025 21:42

Actually yes.

I would think.the only people that would appeal to is school children with toilet humour.

It's gross.

Grin

Alas all the school filling the corridors to spectate wouldn't help solve my DCs' retention issues.
And more than a decent bogroll would be needed to make the toilets feel safe and pleasant. Their issues started in primary when idiots in the class between them regularly messed up the toilets and they were afraid to use them in case they were blamed.

I'm more bothered about constant bingo/ gambling adverts.

Amiunemployable · 09/06/2025 23:12

I like the lynx one and the Andrex one

Not keen on the sure one

Oh don’t get me started, maybe some proper pelvic physio NHS help for women instead of selling us products only a minority should be needing.

My mum who’s 80 told me they used to be given exercises and a nurse came round to show them, in the 70s when women were kept in for 8-10 days and taught how to feed and care and allowed to recover.

Sometimeinadifferentworld · 09/06/2025 23:37

@reversegear
Yes I'm a bit younger than your mum but I remember being given Pelvic Floor Exercises when I was on the maternity ward.
I still do them but not as often as I probably should.

Dominicus · 10/06/2025 08:41

The erectile dysfunction ones during sports games and shows annoy me. My dc love to watch sports and I don’t want to explain that to a 12 year old.

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/06/2025 08:58

I am baffled by the concept of "lower body spray". Just wash all your bits properly and daily and wear cotton underwear ffs. You don't need to spray deoderant near your bum or fanny.

Megifer · 10/06/2025 09:18

I've never, ever, been nose to clothed genital close to a stranger.

I dont know what problem they are trying to resolve. Even my teen DS's are a bit "WTF just shower my guy" about them.

Watermelonice · 10/06/2025 09:26

Couldn’t agree more op.

I wonder too who they are trying to target, it certainly doesn’t appeal to me.

It seems creativity has been replaced by the need to shock which is sad.

yes we all have bodily functions and I’m probably showing my age but some things should stay private.

I can’t the the graphic descriptions of the period ads, the incontinence, the vaginal dryness, erectile dysfunction, how a tampon should be inserted….eww just read the leaflet enclosed, we all managed.

I am probably a bit miserable because I also can’t stand the constant charity ads either.
