Cinema for 4 cost over 100€

Legolady2 · 01/06/2025 13:41

2 children, 2 adults. 4DX, no other option in the language we wanted. Lilo and Stitch.
2 beers, 2 colas, medium popcorn and 2 Haribos pick and mix.
4DX was a super experience that I had never had before and I laughed and had fun, but the cost….
AIBU this is normal for going to the cinema for a 4DX film.
AIBNU that this is really a lot of money.

What the heck is 4DX.
When we go to the cinema, if we choose English (EU cinema) the cost is exactly the same as the dubbed version. But yes we would easily be paying 100+ Euros. Edited to add also 2 adults, 2 kids

amber763 · 01/06/2025 13:44

I think definitely with beers and snacks.

Lolloped · 01/06/2025 13:45

Sounds like you spent a fortune on food - how much were just the tickets?

Mynewnameis · 01/06/2025 13:45

4d isn't actually a usual cinema experience

CoastalCalm · 01/06/2025 13:45

I’d imagine the drinks and snacks were a big chunk of that which shouldn’t be a big surprise they are renowned for being expensive

Spies · 01/06/2025 13:46

Well I suspect the tickets were pretty reasonable but drinks, beers and snacks would naturally bump up the price. Most people take their own snacks and drinks these days surely?

UniqueExpert · 01/06/2025 13:48

Yes it's expensive but that's what it costs.

TiredArse · 01/06/2025 13:49

I bet the pick and mix was €80 of that.

ExtraOnions · 01/06/2025 13:52

…we take our own snacks. The Pick & Mix at the Poundland next to the Cinema is always busy.

RosesAndHellebores · 01/06/2025 13:54

Normal.

Stirabout · 01/06/2025 13:56

Buy a cheap insurance policy on ‘compare the market’ and get their cinema ticket deal

No idea what country you are in OP but in England a one day travel insurance to France costs peanuts. Then you’ve got the meerkat deals for the whole year.
( obviously there’s no actual need to go to France to get the insurance policy 🤣)

TwoFeralKids · 01/06/2025 13:58

For me and my seven year old to watch Stitch film it cost £7.98 for both of us and then I just bought sweets and drinks from Tesco.

newuser9090 · 01/06/2025 14:04

i went to see this at my local Cineworld yesterday and did consider 4dx. It would have been £87 for 2 adults & 2 kids so we decided to go for regular showing. Not sure I will ever pay almost £90 to go to the cinema!

Legolady2 · 01/06/2025 14:04

4DX is 3D with seats that move and we have water and air also sprayed.

Our cinema searches bags and you aren’t allowed to bring your own food and drinks. So it was 77€ for the tickets for 4 and then another 30€ for snacks.

Well there you go
If you want that whole exprience its going to cost
We pay £5 each and take our own sweets but usually buy drinks or don't bother

Legolady2 · 01/06/2025 14:07

I enjoyed the film and the 4DX experience. I’d had only done that in Disneyland Paris before. But sad there wasn’t the option just to see normally in German.

AutismMum2021 · 01/06/2025 14:11

That's actually a decent price for 4 of you.

Legolady2 · 01/06/2025 14:23

Thanks to all. I was just a bit shocked, snacks I would rather bring myself but as they have a strict rule and search bags we couldn’t do that. We are in Germany but cinema in Luxembourg as they offered an earlier time and the 4DX experience in German.

ilovesooty · 01/06/2025 14:27

Apart from something to quench your thirst I think I'd have done without the snacks.

VickyEadieofThigh · 01/06/2025 14:29

Just eat your normal meal before going and don't buy snacks and drinks?

faerietales · 01/06/2025 14:31

You can't compare that to a normal cinema experience!

It's £4.99 a ticket here if you book online.

shellyleppard · 01/06/2025 14:32

Went to the cinema yesterday with my son and his friend.... they paid £6.75 for a large popcorn and £5.75 for a large slushie drink!! 😳😳 Me....£1.50 on pick and mix BEFORE the cinema 😂😂😂

Thenightwemet13 · 01/06/2025 14:35

The cinema has become expensive.

Like others have said, if you want to make it cheaper you need to book on a deal and take your own snacks.

I don’t think I’d go to a cinema that searched your bag. Is there another one nearby?

We get free cinema tickets through our bank and then I go to the supermarket and buy popcorn and share bag snacks.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 01/06/2025 14:37

Well that's not a normal cinema experience is it. Vue cinema near us is £4.99 a ticket, and we take our own snacks in
