I have begun relying on AI and I don’t know how I feel about it.

So far this month I have used AI to:

Analyse my colours (thanks MN) and suggest outfits

Create a menu of packed lunches around my dietary requirements and preferences, complete with a shopping list

Plan a holiday itinerary

Save me hours and hours of work and stress by suggesting really useful ways to overcome very particular work difficulties, having been thrown into an out of my comfort zone situation. I have used AI for this on a daily basis this week

Tonight, instead of posting my current family dilemma on mumsnet I chatted about it with Claude. The responses were really good. Wise, thoughtful, non judgemental, practical, understanding… like the best mumsnetters.

Am I starting to rely on it too much?

What have you been using it for?

whats logical about the amout of energy used for watching tv, for having steros / music systems on, for using electric to charge cars etc all that takes alot more juice.

not to mention all the power for facebook servers, mumsnet severs etc they are all on similar tech etc and all use power,

as for misinformation , in that case shut down facebook / tiktok because they reeach a wider audiance of people and influence alot more people/

plus people would not auto trust the media stories so why then do they auto trust ai ?

Well when the people who pioneered AI are backing out of the industry going "woah, this is a genie that should be stuffed back into the bottle" and essentially experiencing the Oppenheimer epiphany, I think it's worth paying attention.

Or are they all pearl clutching regressives too?

im not sure how many have seen the latest mission impossible film ? tom cruise, well the danger in the lastest one is an Ai system that takes control of the worlds nukes etc

with job losses always been a factor as any tech improves, why should that be a reason to prevent AI otherwise society would still be using horse and plough on farmers fields etc ?

yes because its for the betterment of society, all the new tech that can be deveopled from it, all the medical information / treatments that can be made or improved.

1 scientist + breakthrough in science etc 1 year
1 fully trained AI days at most etc

Consider AlphaFold, the DeepMind system that deciphered protein folding structures with an accuracy and speed that would take human researchers decades.

How dumb can you be? All these warehouses full of computers and a shit ton of water, being constantly regenerated, its not better for our society, it harms our environment, are you sick in the head??

are you stupid? tiktok, facebook etc are all forms of social media, where PEOPLE create content, not AIs, PEOPLE have programmed these platforms not AIs, please get some help! can you give me 3 logical points of why ai is good. PEOPLE CAN'T THINK ANYMORE BECAUSE OF BLOOMING AI

so its ok to not think about the environment then ? and your happy for computers using water to cool the servers etc ? even considering the amout of misinformation there is on facebook / tiktok etc and the enviromental from all these ?

they dont even use HALF the amount of water chat.gpt uses compared to tiktok, facebook etc and you igonred what i said at the end of people relying on ai and don't know how to think these days. give me 3 logical reasons to justify ai.

better advancements eg medical
better self driving cars and other transport
better montioring systems for security think the machine from the show person of intrest

they are also taking our jobs in medicine
self driving cars have many ethical reasons
and people are getting lazier like the OP

As @Swirlythingy2025 pointed out, there are massive breakthroughs being made thanks to AI. You might as well say "DON'T USE COMPUTERS THEY ARE EEEEVIL!!!"

take ai away and nothing changes, they go back to using wikipedia, or they scroll on facebook , or they hire the essay mills companies that used to exist and pay to have their disertation written, or they use websites where other people upload their essays

none are valid reasons to prevent Ai

Until AI is used to control the justice system, healthcare, warfare, the economy and local government with no accountability and little to no oversight because humans have been written off as obsolete.

I can't believe how stupid we are as a species to think AI is the answer to all our prayers. But then, we're all supposed to be compliant little economic units and nothing else already. What is the point of our ongoing existence? And how will you really feel when some "system" decides you are superfluous and treats you accordingly?

because from an efficiency point of view the machine could be correct.
morally however thats a different point of view.
