Being referred to as “that”

TsunamiSurfer · 17/05/2025 21:04

Sent a photo edited to say of me to an opposite sex friend.
we are best buddies, or so I thought.
they responded with “I was with that earlier”

thoughts?

lost in written translation?

or disrespectful?

won’t ultimately effect our friendship but I figured enough to garner your thoughts

I thought photo was of you but guessing it’s another woman?

Neveranynamesleft · 17/05/2025 21:06

Cant say till I know what was in the pic ??

ChesterFoxE · 17/05/2025 21:07

A pic of what? You? Auto-correct maybe?

SoManyIdiotsSoLittleTime · 17/05/2025 21:07

Is English their first language?

Poopeepoopee · 17/05/2025 21:07

why are you sending pics of other women to your bestie and more importantly, why aren't you out with your bestie, on a saturday night?

TsunamiSurfer · 17/05/2025 21:07

I’ve edited post -Thanks!

I’d assume an autocorrect fail. Why would they be telling you that they had been with you earlier? It wouldn’t be news to you…

PlanetOtter · 17/05/2025 21:09

It doesn’t make a tonne of sense, even with your edit. Unless they have form for illiterate twattery, I’d assume typo.

TsunamiSurfer · 17/05/2025 21:09

Photo we’d usually send, glass of vino in hand toasting the weekend - he’s been drinking, sometimes acts out of character when he has (don’t we all sometimes!)

May gather, he’s been very offensive when had a drink previously, maybe it’s making me overly defensive!?

Were they with you earlier?

Whether it's a joke or not, only you can know. You know them. Is it the sort of thing they'd say? Have they said things that way in the past ? Is it their sense of humour to talk like that?

Notsosure1 · 17/05/2025 21:10

The pic is of you? His comment sounded sexual as in he’d had sex with this person - but as it’s you… I’m guessing he hasn’t? Does he mean he was out with you? Maybe a weird compliment if you’ve sent a glamorous photo and you don’t normally glam up? What do you think they mean?

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 17/05/2025 21:11

X post with you.

Well, if you're thinking he's being a twat you're probably right. You know him and you know he's got a history of being a bit of a twat at times.

If it was me I'd message him back saying don't be a cunt

Excellent point.

Appreciate all the replies and insight, perhaps just clunkily worded (much like my post!)

this is how I felt…good to have an outsider interpret it like this…

Thank you, just what I’m thinking in my gut but I’m too emotionally invested to dissect it all

Is he basically going "phwoar, look at you, I was with you earlier wink wink" and trying (but failing) to be complimentary about you by pretending to talk as he would do to another guy? 🤮

Call him out on it. "That?! Is that how you refer to me? Pretty disrespectful, don't you think? Please don't do that again, I do NOT appreciate being objectified."

you sent a pic of you drinking wine? I would understand 'that' refers to wine, not you

Or is it a typo? Maybe he meant to say “I was at that earlier” meaning drinking wine?

Yes as pp I would read think the ‘that’ referred to the wine. Perhaps a little clumsily written but I would’ve assumed harmless. You know your friend though
