Was my colleagues comment about my lunch weird?

Male colleague who I’ve not spoken to much (I only joined this team a month ago).

He overheard me and another colleague discussing what we had for lunch - I said curry as that was the main meal in the restaurant today.

He said he bets my boyfriend won’t thank me as there will be some movement in the sheets tonight (referring to wind..)

My BF thinks he was only joking and I’m being uptight. I find it creepy though…

Bloke humour. Not funny. Best ignored.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 15/05/2025 21:04

he was only joking but it was weird

he probably feels awkward about it tbh - foot in mouth moment

yanbu but leave it x

RonnieMcdonnie · 15/05/2025 21:04

I think you’re being a bit over sensitive

CatamaranViper · 15/05/2025 21:04

I'd say it was a huge overstep and being over familiar, but I don't find it creepy.

bluebunnyjacket · 15/05/2025 21:05

He's probably joking and just trying to fit in and make friends

AlloaintheMiddle · 15/05/2025 21:05

Not very classy…
If it’s a one off, just ignore.

TempestTost · 15/05/2025 21:05

I've worked in sectors where jokes like that were common, all very male dominated. Women often don't like fart jokes in my experience, whereas a lot of men do.

I wouldn't think much of it but it may well be that it wasn't well judged for your workplace.

strawlight · 15/05/2025 21:06

Creepy? No.
Appropriate? Also no
Are you being uptight? A bit, yes.

Screamingabdabz · 15/05/2025 21:09

Actually in my job that sort of comment would be deemed highly inappropriate and unprofessional. It would warrant being hauled in front a manager and rightly so. There is no need for that level of crude and personal comment in the workplace.

Dahlia1234 · 15/05/2025 21:23

Not creepy (not funny either tbf). Yes you are being uptight.

NancyGreens · 15/05/2025 21:24

Not funny, slightly gross, but not creepy

CapitalAtRisk · 15/05/2025 21:25

He said he bets my boyfriend won’t thank me as there will be some movement in the sheets tonight (referring to wind..)

That is grim.

Lapidarian · 15/05/2025 21:28

That’s the kind of comment you just leave a silence after, and say ‘Ok, the adults in the room will get on with our work, Bernard.’

Picklechicken · 15/05/2025 21:36

Not creepy just yuck.

KrisAkabusi · 15/05/2025 21:39

It's a fart joke. Some people think they're funny, others don't. But they are not creepy.

Greenartywitch · 15/05/2025 21:40

Totally inappropriate comment to make in a workplace.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 15/05/2025 21:54

Just a bad taste joke. Not creepy though.

MaisieMoo3 · 15/05/2025 21:57

Okay maybe creepy was the wrong term, I just couldn’t imagine saying that to anyone, probably not even a friend!

If it made you feel uncomfortable then it was not ok. It doesn’t matter what other people think or feel about it.

Agree on all counts. It was crass and unfunny but not creepy.

Littlemiracles232504 · 15/05/2025 22:48

He sounds like he’s tried a bit too hard to be funny but it’s backfired (no pun intended)
there’s a high chance he wanted to ground to swallow him up as he said it… I know I would 😅

dizzydizzydizzy · 16/05/2025 13:16

My dad and brother used to make jokes like this all the time. Rather puerile. Just roll your eyes and ignore.

FiendsandFairies · 16/05/2025 13:20

It’s just very over-familiar and rather rude actually. How old is he? If he was 60+ and not very educated I’d sort of understand it, but from anyone younger and more intelligent it’s not acceptable really.

pinkyredrose · 16/05/2025 13:20

If stuff like this bothers you then maybe you should work on being more resilient.

purplecorkheart · 16/05/2025 13:22

Crude and not funny but I would imagine harmless. He probably would say similar to a male colleague and think that he is funny.
