Husband wearing expensive aftershave into office

Kelly997 · 14/05/2025 18:29

He works in a big office for a national company, doesn’t have to dress up wearing a suit or anything - its fairly casual.

AIBU to say wearing Creed Aventus aftershave in every day is a bit OTT?!

LTB!

Damn I missed this and said the same 🤦‍♀️

coxesorangepippin · 14/05/2025 20:20

Unsure of what Creed is

But it's great he's making the effort, surely

£300 a bottle aftershave

You will need to be wary, that smells sooooo good he will have half the office after him! But seriously, I’d say it depends how flush you are. Whether it’s expensive to him because it’s a bit pricier than your average bottle of Chanel. You can’t really dictate what he wears though that sounds a bit controlling.

PyongyangKipperbang · 14/05/2025 20:34

The only scent I wear is expensive. It suits me and I like it. It is my one treat in an other wise penny pinching life. As it is quite strong, I only need a tiny bit so a bottle usually lasts a year. I usually get it with my birthday gift money that my parents give me.

Given the state of my social life, if I only wore it when going "out out", it would go off before I got half way down a bottle!

Why not wear something you like just because you like it?!

If he had only just started doing it then that would be a red flag, but if he has always done it, I really dont see the problem.

secretrugbyfan · 14/05/2025 20:38

Careful....if he starts wearing Thomson Carter you know he's having an affair.....if you believe all the Insta hype that is!

I wear expensive perfume - everywhere, so yes - YABU

Ooh.. what do you wear?

KimberleyClark · 14/05/2025 20:47

Not too fussed on overly scented men myself. A whiff of shower gel or deodorant is fine.

topcat2014 · 14/05/2025 20:49

I currently have aftershave from lidl. It came in a nice looking box peasant

LaughingCat · 14/05/2025 20:54

@Clafoutie - It’s Cashmere Mist. It lasts all day, with just a hint of a musky fragrance that seeps through into your clothes but not so much that others would be overly aware of it. It’s a roll on but doesn’t leave marks on your clothes (great if you’re into dark colours like me!). It lasts through workouts and music festivals and heatwaves and even overnight. The perfume notes are bergamot, jasmine, amber, sandalwood and vanilla, with lily of the valley running through - all deep and musky but feminine. They’re all my absolute favourite scents.

I don’t get my nails done, my clothes are permanently jeans, t-shirts and hoodies, I’m rubbish at hair, skincare and makeup as I tend to be really minimal but I can’t find another deodorant that comes close in terms of scent and staying power.

But it’s a hell of a lot more expensive now you can’t get it in the UK anymore - I have to buy it in from the US 😭

LittleMousewithcloggson · 14/05/2025 20:56

I recently got bought a bottle of Baccarat Rouge and wear it most days at home at and work
i like the smell of it so I wear it for me

It’s a going out/posh aftershave isn’t it, just seems a bit ridiculous to inflict that on colleagues 😂

I didn’t know there was such a thing as going out aftershave 🤣🤣

You’re being really weird about this. He’s not ‘inflicting’ an expensive aftershave on them any more than he’d be ‘inflicting’ a cheap one on them.

I wore Tom Ford Neroli Portofino to the office today. That’s not cheap either. So what?

I wear that often and so does my colleague! She was wearing it when I interviewed her for the job.

TheyFuckYouUpYourMamAndDad · 14/05/2025 21:13

I only ever wear expensive perfume…why would anyone wear cheap stuff for work when so many people would smell it? Who wants to ‘smell cheap’?

You are being ridiculous.

alimac12 · 14/05/2025 21:15

There is never a bad moment for good hygiene and personal care. Plus if you have to wait for special occasions to use certain thing you will have it for ages or it will go to waste.

tuvamoodyson · 14/05/2025 21:17

I was wearing Chanel perfume today….I was doing housework.

namechangeGOT · 14/05/2025 21:18

I wear Penhaligons Empressa every day to work! I also spray the stuff half way through the day too!

TheOtherSide21 · 14/05/2025 21:20

I wear Creed Aventus into the office and when I’m out travelling - regardless of it’s a business smart or jeans, blazer and trainers day. I rarely wear makeup bar eyebrows and mascara. Smelling good is my ‘thing.’ I don’t think it’s weird.

EndlessTreadmill · 14/05/2025 21:29

I started wearing Givenchy when I was a teenager at school (was a BD present), and have worn Chanel or Kenzo ever since (always on my present list, I rarely buy). I wear it every day, I only stopped my kids were very small as I didnt want them breathing that when I was carrying them in a baby carrier or whatever.
For me, it's as much a part of my routine as deodorant and facecream.

It's about how it makes him feel. You are being ridiculous.

OnTenterhooks · 14/05/2025 21:30

Does he police what perfume you wear?

Lovelysummerdays · 14/05/2025 21:32

I think perfume / aftershave can go off after opening (air affects the smell) so once opened I wear every day till done.

ForkyDorky · 14/05/2025 21:32

Is it new behaviour?

otherwise he just likes it

We’re Dior and YSL most days in this house

ChampagneBlossom44 · 14/05/2025 21:32

There’s got to be more to this.
Are you worried he’s wearing it for somebody else?
Has he (or you) had history of self improvement or better grooming which had coincided with flirting / EA / physical cheating?
do you think he’s not going to work?
Aftershave on its own is nothing, but it must be something to you, if it’s bothered you enough to raise it here.

I had an ex who I felt a twinge of suspicion one morning when the hair gel & joop came out, it wasn’t just the aftershave but something I couldn’t put my finger on. He told me that Saturday morning he was going in on overtime but something in the set of his shoulders when he said this, I knew he was lying. (He was. Went round his ex girlfriends house for coffee who we’d had a few rows about) but yeah it wasn’t just the aftershave, after years you know someone’s nuances.
