Anyone else think toothache is worse than childbirth 😭

Tired clove oil, orajel. Clove oil had me sick and the pain just won't shift. I've got 4 coming out Thursday under sedation. I'd take my very long, very painful labours over this. Absolute hell. Any ideas to keep me sane for the next 48hrs!?

Stay upright, even in bed. The increase in blood pressure when lying down makes the pain worse. Sympathies x

LakieLady · 13/05/2025 17:09

Codeine. Nothing like it for toothache.

Gettingbysomehow · 13/05/2025 17:13

Get ghe strongest drugs you can I.e tramadol. you will have to ring 111 to get those, I know this from experience.

https://www.nurofen.co.uk/products/nurofen-meltlets-lemon-200mg-self-dissolving-tablets/

Try them , put half at a time between your tooth and cheek / lip and keep it there for half a hr . Then rinse ( and swallow ) the partly dissolved tablet. Wait a hr or so and repeat.
Don't do it to often or without a break or you risk getting a ulcer too !

Edt for rotton spelling .

Do you think it's an infection? Maybe you need to speak to your dentist to make sure they can still do the work on Thursday (and you don't need to treat the infection - if it is one - first)

Keep on top of your pain medication, don't mix things that shouldn't be mixed but you can take paracetamol alongside Ibuprofen in the maximum doses.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 13/05/2025 17:20

Nurofen liquid capsules! Sorry op x

Toseland · 13/05/2025 17:21

I sympathise, half my face is swollen due to an abcess atm. Tooth pain is the worst. Whiskey is quite good for a temporary numbing effect, take a swig and hold it over the tooth for a short while. If it's really bad break a paracetamol into quarters and dissolve one on top of the tooth, disgusting but gives you a break from the pain.

WomenInSTEM · 13/05/2025 17:23

When my wisdom teeth were coming through and I had an infected gum, the only thing that stopped the pain was a strong vodka cocktail.

Mudslideal · 13/05/2025 17:23

Sensodyne toothpaste rub it round the tooth and just leave it there, it worked for me when I had an abscess and was in absolute agony,

FedUp120028 · 13/05/2025 17:37

Thank you for the ideas! I'll be trying the neurofen melts! 12.5hr shift tomorrow so I need something to get me through!

Omg I feel your pain!! I've currently got something wrong with a back tooth and I literally can't even put into words how much agony I'm in 😭
I've honestly spent most of the last 4 days crying, it's so painful.

Unfortunately my dentist can't seem to pinpoint what's wrong exactly (no abscess) so I've been referred to someone else but it's EXCRUCIATING!!!
Hugs for you ❤️

Rinse the area with warm salt water op a few times daily and put a cold pack (wrapped in a tea towel) on it as often as needed. Like pp I would phoned dentist sounds like you need a antibiotics.

Sending 💐 toothache is the worst.

stayathomer · 13/05/2025 17:59

I used to eat white bread, dry, or put heat against my cheek, and also rub sensodyne or Corsodyl toothpaste on the area. Hugs op, yes I think it’s the worst, all of mine came when pregnant and could only take paracetamol so the things I’ve listed did actually help!

Copiousamountsofpulses · 13/05/2025 18:01

I was suprised at how much an ice pack on the side of my face helped with agonising toothache, it was awful but honestly something so simple did give quite a bit of relief!!

I'll try the salt water rinse again before bed but it just doesn't last long 😅

I've been to thr dentist who said i didn't antibiotics but I needed 4 extractions and I was referred for sedation for it. My appointment is Thursday.

Anbersol.
Only thing that works for me.

TwinklyFawn · 13/05/2025 21:21

Toothache is awful. I had toothache last week. The dentist found nothing wrong. Oddly my tooth feels a lot better now that i have just finished my period.

Moier · 13/05/2025 21:22

Extra strength.

Toothache! Talk me off the edge.
LateMumma · 13/05/2025 21:29

If there’s any infection there, then corsodyl mouthwash held over the site for 3 mins several times a day will take it down a bit. Only co-codamol has ever touched the pain for me. Good luck OP, toothache is the worst

BloodandGlitter · 13/05/2025 21:36

Did you get the orajel from a pharmacy? The one over the counter is twice as strong as the normal stuff and will numb your entire mouth.

This. Corsodyl also do an oral gel which is excellent for soothing

Hayley1256 · 13/05/2025 21:43

Nuromol - godsend for toothache! You can also take an extra ibuprofen 2 hours after. I usually take 2 nuromol every 4 hours (up to max dose) then decrease to 1 tablet the next day
