Anyone else think toothache is worse than childbirth 😭

Tired clove oil, orajel. Clove oil had me sick and the pain just won't shift. I've got 4 coming out Thursday under sedation. I'd take my very long, very painful labours over this. Absolute hell. Any ideas to keep me sane for the next 48hrs!?

Soak some cotton wool in brandy or whisky and place on the area.

Oragel - they do it in sainsbury's little red box . The only thing i've ever found to work

I find nothing works when it reaches a certain level of pain but paracetamol and ibuprofen seems to help more than codeine for me. Lots of ice packs too.

Sensodyne toothpaste rub it round the tooth and just leave it there, it worked for me when I had an abscess and was in absolute agony,

My dentist recommended this to me.

Whisky you don't have to swallow it just swirl it in your mouth works everytime

RentalWoesNotFun · 13/05/2025 22:28

Hold hot water in your mouth on the affected side.
Or ice cold water.

As PP said earlier, try and sit up in bed propped up by pillows.this relies the pressure. I fins Paramol wonderful for pain like this. 2 teeth out 2014. Available over the counter 3 days use only .ask chemist advice . Strongest thing without prescription. Works well. Xx

Nuromol - godsend for toothache! You can also take an extra ibuprofen 2 hours after. I usually take 2 nuromol every 4 hours (up to max dose) then decrease to 1 tablet the next day

Be careful OP, not all of advice given is safe. Nuromol alredy has ibuprofen in you shouldn't be taking any more an hour after, ibuprofen should only be three doses in 24h.

Orajel and make sure it's extra strength, there is a blue box one and then two different ones in a red box. The extra strength is pharmacy only. Solpadine max or Paramol are probably your best bet alongside ibuprofen. Either corsodyl mouthwash or gel also really helps. If you're buying the mouthwash I found the one without alcohol isn't quite as effective.

Fully agree it's worse than childbirth.

Hope you can get hold of some good painkillers between now and Thursday!

FedUp120028 · 14/05/2025 01:14

FedUp120028 · 17/05/2025 08:51

Thanks everyone, much better after having the work done Thursday!

Still quite a bit sore, not helped by my toddler hitting me in the face!

Posting for benefit of others; in this situation go to the pharmacy and get some co-codamol, they should give you enough to get you through a couple of days.

KnittyNell · 17/05/2025 09:31

There are acupressure points which are supposed to help.
Give them a google.
Hope you’re better very soon.

I worked at a dental clinic for a while and one of the nurses would always advise patients with abscesses and the like to use a cold pack, never hot. Like e.g. a pack of frozen peas wrapped in a towel on the affected cheek for a few minutes at a time. Not sure if this only applies when there's an infection present, but it makes sense. Increased blood circulation = more swelling = more pressure = PAIN!
