this forum is so typically used for griping (and I include myself in that, I love a grumble as much as the next person), I thought I’d balance the scales by starting a thread of things to be thankful for.

After years of renting, losing my parents and having a few shit years, I am finally sitting in my garden in a house that I own, having a glass of wine and listening to the birds. The dog is asleep on the grass, my bulbs are coming up and I’m watching the planes go overhead. Feeling very lucky. Feel free to join in with your own.

What a lovely idea.

My old dad visited (I only have my dad) me today and we had a lovely rye bread cheese and pickle sandwich in the garden in the sun, followed by a magnum.

He bought my a dogwood he’d dug up from his garden and we planted it together. Then I split and dug up some London Pride and he took it home in a sandwich bag with wet kitchen roll in. We had a good chat about the plants that were coming up and how we might have a day trip to York, just us two 😍

Both my DC have got masters offers, one at Oxbridge and one at LSE. Yes, I know bragging. It's been a long road to get here, via illness physical and mental.

Fairislesweater · 11/05/2025 18:46

@Pompompurin1 lovely. It’s little things isn’t it.

Wonderful! My eldest has just started GCSEs and is being surprisingly mature.

Lovely idea.

After not being able to work for 6 years because of DS high level of needs I was worried I would never be able to get back into work. 2 years ago I was offered some casual work and now it is looking very hopeful that will develop into full time soon with some great training opportunities to.

We met our Niece and Partner, at Bourton on the Water today. Had a great lunch in a lovely Italian restaurant, just off the main street. Parked no problem, journey there and back stress free, sun still shining now. Lovely.

DH and I were sitting in the garden earlier with G&Ts with the BBQ slowly cooking supper. We were surrounded by roses I’ve planted. A black bird was singing.

Our 11yo was inside reading. He’d had plenty of exercise earlier (hockey).

I'm just enjoying the peace. There's a nice breeze, cat is chilling near the open doors . Ds9 is playing. Dog is chasing flys Dd has taken the other dog for a walk. Ds10 is on his Xbox.

This is my favourite thing. Work is going to be crazy this week and I’m enjoying an evening of not having to do anything before it kicks off

The smell of May in the garden, blossom everywhere, and the sound of the church bells.

My cat snuggled in between my husband and me so we cannot move from the sofa.

Sminty2 · 11/05/2025 19:00

I just sat in my garden and read my book. The birds sang, the lilac smells incredible and a swarm of bees looking for a new home flew over.

I had an ice cream from the freezer instead of lunch and it was one of those perfect, quiet days when you just feel very, very lucky.

OrlaOrka · 11/05/2025 19:02

I’m currently sat here breastfeeding my 3 week old, after my 2 other babies I battled to breastfeed and didn’t manage, this baby has been an absolute dream and it feels quite healing in a way!

That’s how I feel - lucky. I love our little house. It has character and while it needs work it has a history and feels loved

MabelMoo23 · 11/05/2025 19:06

DH is really struggling with his mental health at the moment. But for an hour today, he sat in the sunshine in the garden and just dozed.

was lovely to see him just relax, if only for an hour

WinterFoxes · 11/05/2025 19:08

I've been really ill while working away from home and leading a project with a big team. But they were brilliant and apart from feeling sick and ache I truly loved every minute of the work. Also caught up with two old friends who live near where I was working. Heading home exhausted but very happy.

Sitting in my garden with a glass of wine after a lovely weekend with husband and son. Work has been crazy and I feel as if I’ve managed to tune it out - something I’ve been working on! Feeling peaceful.

Sunshine, a new album from a favourite band on my headphones, a holiday coming up soon, and a happy adult child, who has been through a lot over the years.

Same as your scenario really, but I'm having a JD & Diet Coke. And an ice cream. And I have two dogs! So thankful for my home and my dogs. It's all I need to be happy.

MoveYourSelfDearie · 11/05/2025 19:16

Sitting in the garden. Had a Bbq. Absolutely stuffed, drunk a couple of cocktails DH made. Listening to 90s and 80s tunes. Teen DD has been spending more time with us recently. She's a wonderfully funny, witty, interesting person to chat to. I love getting to know her as she continues to change as she grows up
