Looks like an infected bite or sting. Happened to me once. I had to go and get antibiotics for it in the end.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 07/05/2025 19:41

Looks like an Insect (probably horsefly) bite. Probably infected if theres puss.

HaveCreditWillShop · 07/05/2025 19:43

Looks like it needs a really good brave squeeze to me! it’s like a little cystic spot on the hair follicle - not dangerous per se but if it doesn’t go, it might warrant some antibiotic cream or something.
personally I’d get after it with some pointy tweezers and a needle and poke out the little hard nodule under the skin. I’m sure 1,000 people will say that’s madness but I bet there’s also 1,000 people keeping quiet who’d also do the same!

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 07/05/2025 19:46

I’d 100% do the same!

Puddlewoman · 07/05/2025 20:00

i dont think i could leave it alone either.

Cismyfatarse · 07/05/2025 20:01

Ooh good squeeze.

TheHerboriste · 07/05/2025 20:22

Spider bite?

ItGhoul · 07/05/2025 20:38

It’s probably a bite or just a blocked pore or an ingrown hair that’s gone a bit manky.

I’m not really sure why you’d be worried?

CKN · 07/05/2025 20:39

Draw a circle around it with a black pen, you’ll be then able to check if infected and spreading.

HighHeelsOnCobblestones · 07/05/2025 20:54

My husband had a horsefly bite that went like that. It was cellulitis and needed antibiotics.

Tortielady · 07/05/2025 21:20

I made the mistake of goggling horsefly bite. Some of the images look like yours, others are much, much nastier. Maybe a pharmacist could advise? In the meantime, if you take an antihistamine, it might reduce the soreness and itching and help you to avoid scratching and squeezing, as tempting as it is.

Anyone else thinking of goggling horseflies: they are nasty little thugs, they are plug-ugly and what they can do to human tissue shouldn't be viewed at mealtimes. 🤢

justasking111 · 07/05/2025 21:23

Friend ignored her horse fly bite, then GP surgery closed over the bank holiday. She wound up in hospital had surgery . See a pharmacist.

I think in the last few hours the redness around it has spread further

That's cellulitis. Call 111

I've had insect bites that were red exactly like that and spread quickly, I needed antibiotics. I'm not saying that's what the original wound is but I wouldn't ignore the spreading redness. You can draw around it with a biro, make a note of the time then you can assess it more accurately or let the doctor know. I'd call 111

MadeleineAllbright · 07/05/2025 22:23

Outline the redness with a pen so you can easily see if it keeps growing - it will help 111 gauge the seriousness.

gamerchick · 07/05/2025 22:25

Dude, that needs looking at. Draw around the red circle to keep track

Seamond · 07/05/2025 22:29

Does it itch, bites generally itch

Couldnotthinkofausername · 07/05/2025 22:30

Whatever it is it's infected so you need to see a doctor.

moosenuckle · 07/05/2025 22:33

Draw a line round it. See how much it expands by in a few hours. It does look like early onset cellulitis which MUST have antibiotics or you lose flesh/leg/life. In that order

This was my leg back in January. It was cellulitis and needed antibiotics.

To be worried about this on my leg?
Pear99 · 07/05/2025 22:50

Thank you everyone. This is it currently. Will draw a line round but the redness is definitely much bigger than 24 hours ago
