The one time out of all the threads I would say go to A&E speaking from experience, it may prevent sepsis

and no I do not say this lightly at all

and I mean go now

Ok I’m worried about wasting anyone’s time as I will say it’s not very painful or anything like that. But it does feel tight and hot and has burning sensation, especially to the touch

I wont go into details but I am in no way joking when I say go to A&E, I know that line gets used a lot on here but I am 100% serious when I say it

Tortielady · 07/05/2025 23:48

I've used 111 a few times and they always ask me if an area feels hot, tight etc. Same with eConsult (through my GP.) It must be significant and you'd be wise to ring 111 and talk to someone who can help.

ETA or just go to A&E. But get advice and medical attention.

ThePussy · 07/05/2025 23:48

Draw a line around the red and write the time. Check for red lines going out from the bite. Then go to A & E.

LoafofSellotape · 07/05/2025 23:50

Have you taken antihistamines and used hydrocortisone cream? See a pharmacist in the morning, they can prescribe antibiotics now for bites.

I haven’t used anything. I’m not 100% the wound is a bite though. I’m guessing it is as I did go to a country fair type thing on Monday for the bank holiday but it’s not been really itchy or anything. I only noticed it in the bath yesterday and saw that it had some slight redness. It itched mildly but nothing too bad and hadn’t been itchy since but then started to bleed and then had pus, since then it’s just got redder surrounding it and more uncomfortable

Take an antihistamine and put some antiseptic on it. I always react to insect bites but an antihistamine makes a big difference

LoafofSellotape · 08/05/2025 00:11

I really wouldn't go to A and E without at the very least taking antihistamines and using cream.

Harassedevictee · 08/05/2025 00:16

It could be a tick bite as to me it looks like a bullseye might be developing which may indicate Lyme disease.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/lyme-disease/

I would definitely go to A & E or a 24/7 pharmacist/walk in centre.

Lyme disease

Read NHS information on Lyme disease, which is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/lyme-disease

MadeleineAllbright · 08/05/2025 00:17

Based on the photos, it doesn’t look that bad to me. If you feel well in yourself, and if the redness isn’t spreading rapidly (i.e. it hasn’t spread beyond the circle you outlined within an hour), I wouldn’t bother with A&E tonight. But I would ring the GP in the morning or send a photo via e-consult if that’s an option and see if they’ll provide antibiotics.

No it doesn't look anything like a bulls eye rash.

Pharmacy, that's the first port of call but I agree it doesn't look bad at all, certainly doesn't warrant A and E ( at the moment)

Wouldn’t bother with the pharmacist personally - OP needs a course of flucloxacillin, but pharmacists can’t prescribe antibiotics, so all they’ll do is agree it looks infected and tell her to go to the GP.

Yes they can, it has recently changed.

That's cellulitis. Call 111

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/cellulitis/

As a long time lurker, I have signed up to send my first message to say I agree this looks and sounds like Cellulitis and please take it seriously. You need antibiotics quickly, (first thing in the morning) but consider going straight to A&E if you have any of the more serious symptoms listed. That includes rapid spreading, which you’ve mentioned. My mum almost didn’t show a similar insect bite to her doctor, not wanting to make a fuss. She was in hospital for two weeks.

sophiasnail · 08/05/2025 16:33

If you haven't already, go and see a pharmacist! They will have a look and then either tell you what to put on it or whether to seek further help.

If you haven't done it before, you just go up to the counter in any pharmacy and ask if you can speak to the Pharmacist. Most Supermarket pharmacies now have a little room you speak to them in if your want some privacy.

Bigtom · 08/05/2025 16:40

Have you seen someone about this yet OP? I agree with others that it looks like cellulitis. My DD nearly developed sepsis and was on an IV drip in hospital with something similar, so I wouldn’t mess around. (Like some PP above, I thought it wasn’t too bad and would have left it if my DH hadn’t insisted we call 111.)

Catsandcheese · 08/05/2025 16:48

I had a very similar thing on my ankle a week ago. I went to a pharmacy and spoke with a pharmacist who prescribed antibiotics. It as cleared up well.
I think it was a spider bite as there was a definite puncture wound
