To forget a friends child’s birthday

I haven’t actually forgotten, I remembered and sent a message but with other personal things going on I didn’t drop a present/card to my friends daughter last week, she is now upset with me and has told a shared friend of ours how upset she is that I “forgot” and it means our friendship isn’t what she thought it was.
we have been friends a long time and I always acknowledge her children’s birthdays and any other event in her/her children’s lives, she doesn’t do the same to mine, which I have never made any issue of as that is her choice.
am I unreasonable to think this is unfair?

People’s self absorption with their own kids doesn’t even stop there sometimes.

I know someone who didn’t want her child associating with anyone who wasn’t part of their master plan for her as she was destined to be master of the universe 🤣🤣

For long enough my eldest didn’t make the cut until this particular parent noted my child doing something that she wanted her child to do. Having not spoken to me for a long time she texted me this long message about how I could her child get access to this thing as it would be helpful to her child’s career path …. as if my job was basically to be king maker to her spawn. I shut it down instantly but it still makes me shake my head that this lady genuinely thought you could go around doing that.

How dare she take that tone with you when your kids birthday aren’t acknowledged by her. Tell her you get what you give from people. If she was a real friend and knew you had things going on in your life she’d understand. Why is it people expect such high expectations from others while putting in minimal effort themselves?
