To consider weight loss jabs?

Dreco · 05/05/2025 07:18

Im not technically overweight but the heaviest I’ve been. I used to be able to lose weight easily whenever I felt it creeping up but now, at 45 it’s not shifting - I’m just getting heavier.

have seen people on here raving about weight loss jabs - I’m considering it.

Do you have to be approved? I’m 5ft 10in and 11.4 stone. Big bum, hips and boobs.

how much is it? Any side effects?

Unless your BMI is 30 or above (or 27 with certain conditions) you won't be approved.

The old system was open to abuse so most providers are now very strict about prescribing and you need an online appointment to verify your weight.

It's expensive, has numerous side effects and (in my opinion) is to be used as a last resort and not to "drop a few pounds"

TheChosenTwo · 05/05/2025 07:24

I mean if you don’t meet the BMI criteria you won’t get them anyway but I’m not surprised they’re playing on your mind, so many of us are taking the medication.

mrsstewpot · 05/05/2025 07:24

You are not obese so you will not be approved for medical treatment for obesity.

autumn1610 · 05/05/2025 07:25

Well in what you said your BMI is around 23 so no they won’t prescribe 27 is the lowest if you have some health conditions the majority of people have to be over 30 for a prescription.

LyricalGangsta · 05/05/2025 07:29

I’m the same height and this would be my goal weight. That would put me bang in the middle of healthy

doodleschnoodle · 05/05/2025 07:32

You can consider them all you like but you aren’t eligible so unless you buy from somewhere dodgy and risk your health that way, you won’t get them.

Elmo230885 · 05/05/2025 07:36

You aren't eligible.

They are life changing for people at much higher weights. There's loads of posts about them and a dedicated board.

As with any medication there are side effects which could happen. It's about the risk reward balance. When someone is obese the effects of that outweighs the risks of the drug and the reward can be amazing.

They aren't for dropping a few pounds when already at a healthy weight. They become too high risk for little pay off.

MJMaude · 05/05/2025 07:40

Of course, great idea! Why wouldn't you want to take a prescription only medication for a condition you don't have?

Woahtherehoney · 05/05/2025 07:46

unless you lie to the online pharmacies (or get it from somewhere a bit dodgy) you won’t be approved.

i’ve had to submit pictures of my weight (actually a picture of the scales with my name and date on a piece of paper) plus photos of what my body looks like.

I’m using it because my BMI is considered obese, I’ve struggled with my weight my whole adult life and alongside mounjaro I’m having therapy around my issues with food.

Annoyingsquirrels · 05/05/2025 07:49

At a bmi of 23 the risk benefit ratio would just not be worth it.

Maye88 · 05/05/2025 07:50

As others have said you won't be approved as not obese. The lowest bmi considered is 27 with health problems related to weight.

The jabs are not a quick fix

Dreco · 05/05/2025 07:52

Ah ok, back to Slimfast then 😂

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 05/05/2025 08:30

Are a lot (some) people who aren't eligible getting them elsewhere? Would not recommend this at all obviously but I'm sure I've read cases of people with low ish BMIs taking it to 'lose a few pounds'...

toomuchfaff · 05/05/2025 17:21

5ft 10 and 11 stone, I think it goes off BMI. not sure what yours is. There are numerous online suppliers, you have to go through their assessment. I've changed suppliers as one didn't accept my cholecystectomy as a factor I no longer have gallbladder issues. The different suppliers have different criteria.

Not to negate your struggle like others.

Dropping carbs tends to work best for those of us with BMI in the normal range who want to drop pounds over time.

KimberleyClark · 05/05/2025 17:39

My BMI is 30. So I could get the injections but trying to do it myself. Gym every other day, cutting down on carbs and alcohol.

2025meme · 05/05/2025 17:40

PLEASE DONT
I researched these a lot for 3 months educated myself and I took mine on Friday
instantly I had awful bitter taste in my mouth then my throat felt swollen inside and I could barley swallow. Then heart palpitations rest of the day. Drank 3-4 litres water still was so thirsty. I contacted a shemed the supplier said a doctor will ring me - no they didn’t !!!!

Saturday woke up my neck shoulders throat were agony. Then my lymph node was swollen under my chin throat area it was agony. I have eaten 1400 calories in 3 days a makes me feel really sick if I eat.

Side effects affects are very very very very common bad side effects
server allergies are common to not advertised .
i cancelled my membership plan and have 3 doses going in the bin.

youll get many say it’s fab but once you inject you cant stop a allergic reaction- I have no allergies to anything so there we are.

They're buying it from dodgy, often downright dangerous sources. Rip off Britain recently carried a story of a woman who bought it online, injected herself and went into a coma - it was insulin.

2025meme · 05/05/2025 17:42

You won’t get it BMI has to be one 30’ams proven by video call

Edited

I havent heard of Shemed but sorry they didnt seem very helpful.

I love the jabs, they were life changing for me and I didnt really have any side effects.

I used MedExpress rather than a subscription service in case they made me feel bad but luckily I was okay. From your post I would recommend others to try one month first rather than one of the subscription ones

This isn’t true for all suppliers- I’ve been taken it for months and never had to do a video call.

2025meme · 05/05/2025 17:47

So you read my post and recommend people take these dangerous medications ?
sheMed is the strictist provider you have to have blood tests first video check ins doing weighins and seeing your ID these are far better than the others

stclementine · 05/05/2025 17:50

If you aren’t obese you won’t be able to get it. At least not from a legitimate source. Those of us who are taking it don’t just hand over our money and get it automatically. We have had to prove we are obese and send in regular photos. Please don’t spoil things for us by taking the piss. This is truely a miracle for some of us who have tried everything else for years.

stclementine · 05/05/2025 17:50

No idea why the underlining!

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 05/05/2025 17:51

You categorically dont need it and no one responsible would prescribe it to you at that height and weight
