We have our annual ball coming up. It's a charity school ball held on school grounds. Is this ok?

I don't know! Is it too bridal party?

Those are both beautiful dresses and perfectly suitable. I would go for the midi length as you would get more use out of it in the future.

Littlemisscapable · 03/05/2025 08:29

It's lovely the mid length might be more school ball

Yes maybe, plus I'm only 5'4"

need to choose the colour now

It’s a very elegant classy dress.
Really depends completely on what people generally wear . Our school ball often have more cocktail style dresses for dancing but some do wear long.
I wouldn’t describe this as a dress to look / feel sexy or partyish though . Depends on how you like to feel at a school ball.

Well exactly. I'm pretty out there in my style, but for a school ball I like to blend in really.

Some people go slightly sexier, some are very conservative. Perhaps this is somewhere in the middle?

I think I like the green.

dontcomeatme · 03/05/2025 08:32

Definitely the green. Beautiful

Cnidarian · 03/05/2025 08:35

Gorgeous, green midi I think.

Atarin · 03/05/2025 08:36

It looks like a dress you could wear to a few occasions, summer party, wedding, etc. Is it a party for teachers of the school held at the school itself, or a ball for the students and you’re supervising?

It's a parent event. There is a table of teachers coming. No pupils at all.

I'm leaning towards the maxi length. Slightly more formal would you say?

I mean it could be but people won't automatically jump to Bridesmaid, it's lovely as an occasion dress.

nobodywantsit · 03/05/2025 08:45

I’d go for the midi. Definitely dressy enough and more wearable than the maxi for other events.

That makes more sense! I think that dress will be fine then, and you can use it afterwards.

Ophy83 · 03/05/2025 08:50

I prefer the maxi length. The midi length looks more like a daytime dress

Ponoka7 · 03/05/2025 08:58

If you are 5'4", then the midi should be a better fit. The length is 140 cm. A midi in the petite range is 120 cm.
I'd go for the olive, blue (not navy) or soft pink. But I go to the races, so know I'd get my wear our of those colours. The dark colours wouldn't be my choice, or the style of dress over winter.

Maxi length, all the girls will have full length dresses on.

TheGrimSmile · 03/05/2025 09:02

It's lovely. What's your colouring OP? I think midi though as you'll get more use out of it in the future

Sorry for some reason I thought this was for your daughter. If it is for you, I would go for the midi length, as PP have said you will get more use from it.
