We have our annual ball coming up. It's a charity school ball held on school grounds. Is this ok?

I'm not worried about getting use out of it - does that change anyone's preferences to maxi length?

If you are 5'4", then the midi should be a better fit. The length is 140 cm. A midi in the petite range is 120 cm.
I'd go for the olive, blue (not navy) or soft pink. But I go to the races, so know I'd get my wear our of those colours. The dark colours wouldn't be my choice, or the style of dress over winter.

Edited

The ball is an evening event

Midi green gets my vote. I would think bridesmaid with the full length. That said go for whatever you're comfy in. I was at an awards this week and the range of lengths, styles, formality etc was vast. Everyone looked lovely which is the main thing.

I agree OP that maxi length would be more suitable for a ball. Midi would be better for a garden party or wedding guest imo.

Get the maxi then, you can always get it shortened if you needed it for a future event and maxi wasn’t suitable

Yes go for the midi. The long is lovely but a tad on the formal side? I also would go for the pinky reddish colour rather than green but that depends entirely on your own preference, colouring etc…..The green is lovely too

perfect, go midi if you are 5’4, monsoon run long (I’m taller than you and had to take up the longer length)

Go for it! It’s beautiful! Very classy, and midi length could be worn again

Sonny36 · 04/05/2025 11:39

Maxi definitely for a ball, unless you feel more comfortable in a midi. I think you feel more dressed up in a maxi. I always wear full length to a ball as there aren’t many chances to do so. Have a fab time x

I don't know! Is it too bridal party?

I think you’ll be a bit under dressed. This isn’t very formal - although it’s beautiful dress. You’ll want something more formal.

It's not a hugely formal event. Formal but not very formal
