Take a few afternoons off for life admin

Davidpuddyy · 21/04/2025 16:28

I want to take 4 half days off for life admin:

buying a house so need to see solicitors and banks.
need to speak to the sons schools about stuff
general life admin that I need to sort

i took 2.5 days off during Easter a total of 5.5 days since the start of the year.

Am I being lazy - I don’t want to run about trying to fit things in and then come back to a a dozen messages on the teams chat wondering where i am.

You can take leave whenever you like, providing its within the guidelines and allowances your employer sets. What you do with it is your own business.

Soontobe60 · 21/04/2025 16:29

Eh? Do you mean take them as sick days or as holidays?

Is this purely your life admin - or is it split with a partner?

I get it if you work full time as trying to do working hours stuff in the evenings just seems to take longer than what a short conversation would sort out.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 21/04/2025 16:31

If it’s annual leave (not phoning in sick) then yeah do what you want, who is it that you’re worried about annoying?

mondaytosunday · 21/04/2025 16:31

Yea why not? Though I’d rather take full days off to get stuff done. Not sure why you think you are being lazy? You are doing it to get stuff done.

I have taken an extra day this week to complete some life admin.

Do it without guilt.

Why should your employer pay you to do your life admin and other people have to cover your work? Take it as holiday

ruethewhirl · 21/04/2025 16:33

Of course you’re not lazy! Annual leave is yours to use however you see fit. Some people on MN inexplicably argue that there is no such thing as life admin, but there really is, and it takes time. If you have a busy life there’s no virtue in running yourself ragged trying to fit everything in. I speak from personal experience there.

I think she is taking it as annual leave?

JoyousEagle · 21/04/2025 16:34

Surely you’re not actually considering taking it as sick leave? 4 half days? You’re going to be sick for 4 afternoons in a short period?

Some people get annoyed at others taking frequent leaves, in particular half days.

ScaryM0nster · 21/04/2025 16:34

This is what annual leave is for.

It’s taking the piss to take it as sick, but it’s textbook use of annual leave. Or toil if you work some where that lets you accrue that and then block it as time off.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 21/04/2025 16:35

As long as you're taking annual leave then you can take your leave how you want and for whatever reason

I understood from OP’s “you caught me” post that it would not be annual leave…

It will be from my annual leave - cannot fake sickness for 4 afternoons over 9 days.

Oh yes I missed that. That would be unreasonable and how would it even work? She goes into work half day and then goes home?

Yeah that’s shit OP. Use annual leave.

pinklimefish · 21/04/2025 16:37

If it’s annual leave do whatever you want. I booked a days AL once just to sleep.

You caught me.

So you mean pull sickies. Don't, really. You don't know what'll happen in the future

More to the point though, people aren't stupid and will have a good idea what you're up to. It won't sit well with your colleagues.
