Why do people laugh when they see me?

This has happened so many times, with a number of different people. I just say hello and people laugh in response. I don't get it. Or I'll offer someone a cup of tea and they laugh before they answer. WTF is this all about?

Nervous laugh?

GieYerselPeace · 20/04/2025 21:12

No, I don't think so. More like a chuckle is how I'd describe it.

I have a college with a nervous/tic laugh.

She sounds like a goat. “Baaaaaaaa!”

I like goats. It’s all fine.

It’s probably something similar.

GieYerselPeace · 20/04/2025 21:15

But with different people? It's bizarre.
Id enjoy a goat sounding colleague too.

Is it people you already know or strangers? Is it after you speak?

Darkclothes · 20/04/2025 21:17

Do you have an unusually, high pitched, childish or extremely deep voice that people aren't expecting?
Do you have an unusual look?

I have no idea, but never noticed people laughing when I first meet them!

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 20/04/2025 21:17

Whats your appearance like? Are you making an effort to be neat and presentable? No food on your top or anything?

Is it literally everyone or some people in a specific environment, like the office?

I'm sorry girl, people aren't always nice but i' sure you don't deserve it. Although sometimes it's something we can change xx

Coatsoff42 · 20/04/2025 21:20

This is such a strange thing to happen. Is it just new people and it’s a laugh of surprise? Is it people who know you?

It’s a very odd thing. Do you wink a lot, or in some way make your comments sound jokey?

I would get on well with your colleague, I blow raspberries at people when I get nervous 🤣🤷‍♀️

SkaneTos · 20/04/2025 21:26

Is it family/friends/people that you know that laugh when they see you?

Maybe you are a funny person (in a good way), and they know that you are a funny person, and they are expecting that you will tell a joke or say something funny (in a good way), so they are laughing in anticipation?

This made me think of the scene in Grown Ups 2 where the ladies are looking at the sexy man in the waterpark and then he speaks and his voice is so high pitch they all laugh!

No, I don't think so. Although maybe more on the high pitched childish side Blush

Pretty normal appearance... always neat and presentable I hope.

Think you probably have your answer - a childish high pitch sing song hello makes people laugh.

No, it's people I know, never known it to happen with new people when I've just met them. I do think I'm funny but the laugh is often followed by something as simple as what I mentioned in OP.

Blush I'll never speak again

Would you be able to ask someone close? Maybe they’d be able to give you honest feedback. It’s a very odd thing to happen.

TalkToTheHand123 · 20/04/2025 21:37

Have you not asked any of your family or friends why?

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 20/04/2025 21:40

OP is it possible that you are very sensitive to people's reactions and perceive that they always laugh when perhaps it isn't quite so common?

Sherararara · 20/04/2025 21:43

Do you sound, act, dress or look weird, odd or strange?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 20/04/2025 21:45

Agree with pp, I'd ask someone you'd trust to be honest with you

Dont just ask everyone though otherwise they'll start acting like you're crazy xx

You're not on your own OP. People laugh at me as soon as I walk into a room. Except small children, they just run off screaming.

I've no idea why as I'm perfectly normal and always well presented.

are you excessively formal?

If it’s people you know it will be because you amuse them, make them laugh, they are relaxed in your company. In a good way. They are already used to your voice so it can’t be that. I think it’s because people are drawn to you.

Do you get on with the people in question?
