The poshest county in the UK?

Which one county would you say is the outright poshest in the UK? Let’s not use Greater London here, and I know there will be social diversity in all, but which would you say is the poshest overall?
I’m going with Berkshire, darling.😂

Midsomer Norton is dog-rough, and Keynsham is a drab little town. But I am not a Bath fan.

Don’t worry, Bath hasn’t noticed, it doesn’t miss you.

midlandsmummy123 · 11/04/2025 00:58

Can't believe Essex hasn't been mentioned, four of the best Grammar schools in the country, plenty of mansions, top restaurants etc but actually I do think that Essex has a different feel to the home counties.

What would we all say about Cambridgeshire?

Nice if you want a cheap caravan and can speak the lingo.

Eyes98 · 10/04/2025 23:45

Excluding Peterborough what would you say then?

Are you selling any horses, caravans, or old 4x4s (strictly cash)?
Lived in that neck of the woods, a lot of it is lovely but rough as badger's.

West Sussex.

Followed by Bucks or Hants I think.

Wiltshire is rather posh too in parts - but has Swindon in the middle.

Ha ha! West Sussex: Bognor and Littlehampton both rough as hell, Crawley...
Yeah not posh.

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 11/04/2025 01:31

Buckinghamshire. I lived there for about 35 years and the homes along Cokes Lane in Little Chalfont grew in price to ridiculous amounts, £2m plus. And Noel Gallagher and The Osbornes lived there so it was extra posh 😂😂😂

Bath and North East Somerset.

It's small but parks punch. Less than 200,000 live here (mostly in Bath, Midsomer Norton and Keynsham - the rest is rural). It's a double Unesco world heritage site too because of the Roman Baths and the architecture of places like the Royal Crescent.

I currently live in a nice outer London suburb and dream of moving to Somerset.
DH is semi retired, dd has just joined the Royal Navy fleet air arm so there’s nothing to tie us to London anymore. I’m fed up of living next to a HS2 site.
i work in healthcare so my job is transferable

moto748e · 11/04/2025 01:39

Somerset's OK. It's better than Wiltshire.

That's where I live. It's a big area, I wouldn't say it's posh. Maybe it sounds like it.

cherish123 · 11/04/2025 01:43

Surrey or Edinburgh (Lothian)

But it's got slough in it..

moto748e · 11/04/2025 01:45

Could depend on the pronunciation.

Nah the Fens are in Cambs - def not posh!

Oh but the Essex girl thing never went away and Towie gave it a terrible reputation

bettydavieseyes · 11/04/2025 01:56

A county is massive. I don't think you can describe any whole county as posh, they all have weak spots. Berks, bucks and Surrey are all high on this list but I live in berks and am in and out of Surrey and Bucks and it's a real mixed bag.

Stephenra · 11/04/2025 02:02

Well I'm from Northampton and I once heard someone say 'tiffin' and as kids we had hand crocheted doilies on the sideboard

DanFmDorking · 11/04/2025 02:32

Dear oh dear - why does one need to ask - it’s Surrey of course - centred on Dorking.
In Dorking a creche is when two cars hit.
Just make sure you've got a full tank before coming up my driveway.
My dishwasher doesn’t work weekends - the cook has to do his own.
Scientists recently discovered the source of the quark - it's the sound made by a Dorking duck.

Excluding Peterborough, it's got Huntingdon. Definitely not posh.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 11/04/2025 02:43

maddening · 10/04/2025 23:11

Cheshire

Think you're confusing Loadsamoney with poshness. Cheshire also has Runcorn, Warrington etc in it, so not even overly affluent.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 11/04/2025 02:46

Smidge001 · 10/04/2025 23:57

Slough isn't in Berkshire, it's in Bucks.

No, it isn't.

JandLandG · 11/04/2025 02:51

MarxistMags · 11/04/2025 00:41

Wiltshire.

Agreed.

Wilts has an ancient, elemental feel to it that draws me in.

Except in Swindon and Trowbridge 😝

Jokes.

Just moved across the border actually; now in Somerset.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see a nuclear war between Somerset and Wiltshire over cider or wassailing or something...

JandLandG · 11/04/2025 02:58

moto748e · 11/04/2025 01:39

Somerset's OK. It's better than Wiltshire.

Just seen this.

This is the kind of inflammatory lose talk that goes on down here in the south-west.

Ain't no rules.

Although moto7 might find herself in the stocks if she ever dares to try to cross the border...

SapporoBaby · 11/04/2025 03:15

I live in Greater London just 3 minutes walk from the border with Surrey 😂 My Yorkshire family would roll in their graves

BrieAndChilli · 11/04/2025 03:19

Monmouthshire?
we dont have any cities, most expensive average house prices in wales i think

Whyohwhyisitlikethis · 11/04/2025 03:24

Leicestershire
