The poshest county in the UK?

Which one county would you say is the outright poshest in the UK? Let’s not use Greater London here, and I know there will be social diversity in all, but which would you say is the poshest overall?
I’m going with Berkshire, darling.😂

Define "posh" though.

Were I am we are surrounded by loads of titles and "country piles" but they are not at all rich.

Somewhere like the Cotswolds, loads of money but completely nouveau.

So actual posh, like connected to Royalty, etc or rich snobs who think they are something special because they can afford a cottage in a postcard location?

PsychoDeMayo · 11/04/2025 00:09

Scotland doesn’t have counties so count us out of your baiting discussion.

Slough isn't in Berkshire, it's in Bucks.

Really? When did it move?!

AbsolutelyZero · 10/04/2025 23:42

It’s full of money but I’d hardly describe it as posh.

Old Alderley certainly is.

I assume that’s a joke 😂

Must be

Alderley edge, Cheshire

The OP was asking about the poshest county. That is just one place in Cheshire. I live in Cheshire. Macclesfield. Nice enough place but not "posh"

Actually I think there are probably much posher places in Cheshire than Alderley Edge.

Triggered much?

why baiting?

NPET · 11/04/2025 00:13

Berkshire because it's a "Royal County".

KimberleyClark · 11/04/2025 00:14

Cheshire.

Ok, so…Cheshire

I’m from Bramhall

ClairDeLaLune · 11/04/2025 00:15

Throwing in a suggestion from a northerner: Cheshire

AppleWhiskers · 11/04/2025 00:16

So there's Wilmslow, but there's also Runcorn!

What would we all say about Cambridgeshire?

It contains Peterborough?

Prestbury. But also Crewe

Maybe this is the case with all counties, so trying to identify the "poshest" is difficult

Not the best schools …

We have fantastic grammar schools ,the academy schools are great and we have Tonbridge and Sevenoaks schools on our doorstep.

mommatoone · 11/04/2025 00:22

I suppose it's what you define as 'posh' . For me ,it's Cheshire because I live near there! Lots of beautiful places, houses and footballers ( not arsed about the footballers, but it's a lovely area)

What would we all say about Cambridgeshire?

No, not with Peterborough and the Fens. South Cambridgeshire maybe.

NeringaCS · 11/04/2025 00:23

DearBee · 10/04/2025 22:57

Hertfordshire

Harpenden, Berkhamsted and Tring can’t make up for Watford, Hemel, Stevenage and Hatfield. Hertfordshire has posh parts, but it is very far from being a posh county.

Fiddledeedeefiddle · 11/04/2025 00:23

Warwickshire

TempleBar9631 · 11/04/2025 00:23

You should change the title to England, not the UK. I'm in Scotland and haven't heard of half the places you're talking about, just as you probably have no clue about half the places in Scotland.

Another vote here for North Lanarkshire.

Mumblechum0 · 11/04/2025 00:24

I’m in Marlow, Bucks which is very expensive in terms of house prices, v expensive shops on the High St, lots of insta-plastic types around but I don’t equate expensive with posh. And it’s spitting distance from High Wycombe which is very rough imo. In terms of proper posh, probably somewhere like Norfolk where the Royals and their mates hang out. Where everyone has 6 kids, loads of dogs and drive round in old bangers but have titles they don’t use

Wintersgirl · 11/04/2025 00:25

My guess in no particular order..

Berkshire
Surrey
Hertfordshire
Cheshire
Oxfordshire
Buckinghamshire

What would we all say about Cambridgeshire?

Errm -- it varies?
When I lived in Essex i was surprised to learn that there was a very posh area in the county, East Bergholt, where house prices rivalled those in Chelsea. At that time, anyway. I doubt they have kept Pace these days.

moto748e · 11/04/2025 00:27

Quite apart from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire is not all that. Certainly Cambridge itself isn't; the 'city' centre is a right mess these days, or was the last time I was there. The Fens are pretty dull.
