To be so so angry

Nc for this one! In Oct 22 my daughter was bitten by an XL bully and has had to have several surgeries on her arm.
We have several of the beasts in our area and I feel more and more incandescent with rage everytime I see one, muzzled or unmuzzled. I just feel there's such injustice for children like DD who have had to suffer yet they are still allowed to roam free as a breed. I saw one being walked earlier in the park and my mind jumped to 'i wish they had all been destroyed'

I don't blame you. I would feel the same.
I hope your daughter has a full recovery.

Penguinmouse · 01/04/2025 19:18

I don’t blame you. I hate those dogs and I hate their owners more. Wishing your daughter a speedy recovery. Hope you reported it to the police and they actually do something.

itsgettingweird · 01/04/2025 19:19

Absolutely you are not unreasonable to feel that way.

most sad at y measures that sometimes become law often stem from people who’ve experienced accident or tragedy and have strong emotions.

Maybe DD herself would find it part of the healing process to do a campaign?

YesHonestly · 01/04/2025 19:20

I am so sorry about your daughter OP, I think your rage is understandable given the circumstances.

I am a dog lover, I have always been a dog lover, and I believe they should all be culled.

pearbottomjeans · 01/04/2025 19:20

YANBU, I feel like they should all be shot and I haven’t even have that terrible experience that your family has had.

LittleLongDog · 01/04/2025 19:20

I would feel the same if it was my child. I’m sorry you’re all going through this.

Maybe try and focus on the muzzled ones and the fact they’re being kept safer? Just to save your blood pressure.

Screamingabdabz · 01/04/2025 19:21

They are a horror story on legs. And the owners are utter morons. There should be a total ban I agree. Hope your dd recovers well. 💐

Largestlegocollectionever · 01/04/2025 19:21

Maybe try and reframe it, each time as thank goodness she survived and is alive after facing an XL Bully?
You have every right to be angry, of course, but it’s only hurting you feeling this way and so for your own sake I’d try and turn it into gratitude or do something constructive with the anger.
But you’re justified!

BelloItalia · 01/04/2025 19:23

I don’t blame you. I’m a huge dog lover - in fact my entire life revolves around dogs but I hate those animals with a passion. I know it’s not their fault, they shouldn’t exist and that’s on humans but now they should all be destroyed.

I was walking my dog the other day and a bloke was walking two of them. I kept a distance walking as far to the left as I could and he kept as far to the right as he could. As he walked past these awful animals were going mental snarling and growling lunging in our direction. They had muzzles on but I still felt sick with the “what ifs”. They all need to be destroyed. It’s madness that they’re still walking around

lolly792 · 01/04/2025 19:24

I’m not surprised. Why anyone feels the need to keep this breed of dog is beyond intelligent reason.

pleasepackitin · 01/04/2025 19:24

I saw one in real life for the first time yesterday, I couldn't believe the sheer size of it. It was like a dog crossed with a monster

EasternStandard · 01/04/2025 19:29

I don’t know why anyone would say yabu

yanbu at all

lolly792 · 01/04/2025 19:31

I was reading in the news earlier about the grandad who died some time after being chased and attacked by a XL Bully while he was walking in a residential area. The news report said the owner is already facing charges for having a dangerous dog out of control. I hope the moron now gets charged with manslaughter and ends up in jail. The news report said the man suffered unimaginable pain before his death. So many deaths, so many life changing disfiguring injuries, just because some total idiots seem to be afraid to walk around without a fucking dangerous dog at their side

There was a woman on here a few months ago gushing about her “placid XL Bully”. When people questioned her intelligence she said she was an educated professional or something … she’s been quiet lately - I do hope it hasn’t eaten her

TinkerbellStarbright · 01/04/2025 19:34

No, I think you’re totally justified

i am a huge dog lover and I think they shouldn’t exist and for reasons like the attack on your daughter they should be humanely euthanised

i hold the idiots who keep and breed them to blame.

You are not being unreasonable. You should consider EMDR therapy for the impact this has understandably had on you to help you process it.

sprigatito · 01/04/2025 19:37

I would feel this way about a human who attacked and disfigured my child, so I don’t think you are being unreasonable to hate XL bullies with all your heart.

They are monstrous freaks which should never have been developed in the first place. They need to be rounded up and destroyed, no exceptions. But MN is a weird place when it comes to dogs. The same people who will call you evil for wishing harm on these Frankendogs would be enthusiastically baying for the death penalty if it had been a human who savaged your daughter.

BakelikeBertha · 01/04/2025 19:40

There was an article on TV about it this morning, a man's daughter was attacked, and the TV people wanted to introduce him to an owner so that he could ask why she keeps one. She seemed totally gormless, 'oh my dog wouldn't do that', and I just thought, 'how stupid can you be?' They eventually persuaded the man to stroke the dog, but not until it had a muzzle on. The man told the woman the last time he'd been that near to an XL, was when he was laying on top of it, trying to protect his daughter! In all honesty, I was shocked that he agreed to do the article, as there's no way I'd go near one after one of my kids had been attacked, with or without a muzzle.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 01/04/2025 19:48

I am a proper dog lover, and a big advocate of "it's not bad dogs, just bad owners". There's an American Bulldog walked in the park I walk mine in, and he's a proper sweetie. Massive and muscular though. As a responsible dog owner, I'd not have a dog I couldn't physically hold onto if the need arose. My collie is big enough for me.

However, the XL bullies should never have been a thing. They have only been bred to be status symbols and to be used as a sign of being "tough".

I also saw a video the other day of a Cane Corso standing on it's hind legs next to a woman. It looked like a very muscular, dangerous man, with a very strong jaw and teeth, rather than a dog. I'm not scared of dogs in the slightest, will happily play on the floor with my friends rotties, but this thing worried me. I can't imagine wanting one in your home.

lolly792 · 01/04/2025 19:54

@BakelikeBerthayes, she was trying hard to come across as a responsible owner but frankly owning this breed is not responsible full stop. No matter how many hours a day you spend training them and trying to convince yourself you’re a good owner, you’re being an irresponsible idiot for having one

Alix111 · 01/04/2025 19:54

Whilst I understand the sentiment and agree you should be angry. It is not the dogs fault it is the owners, no animal is inherently bad, it is the owners who have trained (or lacked in their training) of the animal. If you see an unmuzzled XL bully report it to the police or if you see any report them in case the owners are illegally having them, that is the only way of dealing with the problem. Sending thoughts to you and your daughter in her recovery :)

Treesarenotforeating · 01/04/2025 19:55

I understand your anger, I don’t know why anyone especially family’s would want such a beast

ionatrolley · 01/04/2025 19:59

I would try my best to poke its eyes out with my door key.

Mbhhhvff · 01/04/2025 20:04

They are basically a tiger on a lead, so I don’t blame you either.

I don’t understand why ownership of these dogs is being put above peoples safety.

Morons own them and morons are letting them exist. I agree they should all be destroyed.

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 01/04/2025 20:10

Your poor daughter and you, that must be so traumatising.

I don't understand why people keep them, it's not fair on the dogs themselves. At our local dog park there are people with fighting dogs and the odd XL and it makes my blood boil. People often don't have control of their dogs - a great Dane put it's hind paws on my daughter's chest and the owner told her off for being scared!
