OMG HOW MUCH LONGER!

Day 1 - Monday - shivery, nausea, exhausted
day 2 - razor throat. Still shivery, nauseous, exhausted
day 3 - as above
day 4 (today) - not shivery but instead hot, exhausted, awful cough that’s painful like I’m coughing my throat out and coughing up tons of phlegm, very sore throat, body aching, now my nose is totally blocked and can’t breathe

is this the flu?
and honestly how much longer will this torture last? It’s doing my head in especially with 2 young kids to run around after.
I’m drinking, I’m eating as and when I feel like it, I’m taking paracetamol and vitamins, Vicks first defence spray although that’s clearly done sod all, someone send help (or tell me how much longer I have to put up with this!)

thanks!

I had something similar, over a week ago now. I still am not right, and feel out of sorts. It is more the tiredness now, that is a problem.

Ricecakesaremyjam · 20/03/2025 18:54

How long were you feeling rough with it before symptoms eased?

BlackBean2023 · 20/03/2025 18:56

I had this before half term. Took a week for it to come out in full force and about 10 days to shift it to a point I felt human. I’ve still got a poxy cough.

80sballetgirl · 20/03/2025 18:57

Sounds just like my DH, this is week 6 & he’s only just feeling better (2 lots of antibiotics) - sorry OP!!

Whatwouldnanado · 20/03/2025 18:58

Three weeks in here. Albeit shivery snot fest over after about 10 days. Completely blocked ear for another 10 or so. Course of Amoxicillin has restored a bit of hearing, gradually improving. Still on lemsip snd throat sweets. Good luck 🤧

LadyKenya · 20/03/2025 18:58

By about day 5-6. I am still tired though. I don't think I got it as bad as some people I know, thank goodness.

Ricecakesaremyjam · 20/03/2025 18:58

I’m on day three 😩 but the headache…. Literally head in hands type thing. Sudafed has helped, but when it starts to wear off… urrghhhh

Juniegirl · 20/03/2025 19:09

2 weeks to start feeling human. 3 weeks and still exhausted. 4 weeks and can say fairly normal but you’ll still have the odd day when exhausted out of the blue.
Get well soon

ThirdStorm · 20/03/2025 19:10

This was me last week. 5 days off work. By day 7 I felt more myself. Today is day 11 and id say I’m 95%.

ConnieSlow · 20/03/2025 19:13

Omg just go and get some antibiotics already. Why suffer and struggle this way. I started out like this and on day 2 got some antibiotics. Friend is waiting it out and just absolutely battling.

Katemax82 · 20/03/2025 19:19

My husband has had this, on the week I came home from having a c section and he had to look after our 3 other kids. Not great..he's still rough a week later

goingtotown · 20/03/2025 19:19

Day 13. Started to get some energy back today, sat outside in the sun feel so much better.

Ricecakesaremyjam · 20/03/2025 19:22

@ConnieSlow will antibiotics help? I thought they didn’t help viral stuff?

Peaked at around day 10/11. Sorry op. Both me and dp had it at the same time. Honestly it was awful. Kids ate freezer teas for about 2 weeks 😂😂 hope you feel better soon 💐

Ricecakesaremyjam · 20/03/2025 19:26

Exactly the same for me too

stayathomer · 20/03/2025 19:34

Huge hugs op, rang into work sick today and started bawling crying out of nowhere (me not her!). At every opportunity I cling to my bed (not easy, 4 kids and dh away)

abracadabra1980 · 20/03/2025 20:32

This 'germ' is going round like wildfire. I think I know of more people who've had it where I live, than haven't. It's awful. I had it before Christmas and still have vertigo. My ears were bubbling inside! It also chucked in a nice sinus infection to wipe me out further. And the fatigue... Get better soon OP.

Ricecakesaremyjam · 20/03/2025 20:38

Genuinely cant remember the last time I was anywhere near this unwell!

I’m currently at the end of week 3..

Week 1: Exactly the same as yours, coughing to the point of choking and throwing up. Throat so sore I cried

Week 2: Cough calmed down. Nose and throat went from being full of snot to uncomfortably dry.

Week 3: Cough back, head cold back and I’m soo tired. Keep feeling a little spaced out.

At the point where I just want it gone but it’s really dragging itself out.

ConnieSlow · 20/03/2025 20:44

It’s amazing how they fob you off that it’s viral.

gamerchick · 20/03/2025 20:50

First, stop the Vicks FD..it only works on colds. You'll just make your nose sore. This is not a cold.

Make sure you're hydrated, painkillered up and eat little and often. Just try to ride it out.

Night nurse suppresses a cough if you're desperate for sleep.

It's obvious a virus, you don't need antibiotics. Can't understand why people just trott off for antibiotics straight away. Have we not learned yet?

Canaryhead · 20/03/2025 20:51

I had this for two weeks recently

MarxistMags · 20/03/2025 20:51

Years ago I read a foolproof way of telling if it was the cold or the flu. If you see £20 on the floor and can't pick it up because your eyes would fall out and your head would fall off....then it's definitely flu.
If you see £20 on the floor and think 'it's mine now' ....then definitely it's a cold.
