OMG HOW MUCH LONGER!

Day 1 - Monday - shivery, nausea, exhausted
day 2 - razor throat. Still shivery, nauseous, exhausted
day 3 - as above
day 4 (today) - not shivery but instead hot, exhausted, awful cough that’s painful like I’m coughing my throat out and coughing up tons of phlegm, very sore throat, body aching, now my nose is totally blocked and can’t breathe

is this the flu?
and honestly how much longer will this torture last? It’s doing my head in especially with 2 young kids to run around after.
I’m drinking, I’m eating as and when I feel like it, I’m taking paracetamol and vitamins, Vicks first defence spray although that’s clearly done sod all, someone send help (or tell me how much longer I have to put up with this!)

I've zero patience for illness that lasts over 4 days. In February I started with something that floored me completely for 7 days, left me mainly useless for the next 7, not even 50% for the next 7. Haven't been that ill for that long for years. To add insult to injury one night while in the midst of a coughing fit that made me sick I leant over to throw up completely forgetting I was sleeping propped up and whacked my head on the bedside drawers. Loads of blood, extra headache and a cracking bruise....

I’m joining in too. Feeling very sorry for myself. Started as a sore throat about a week ago, really vicious. Then became a cough which tested my pelvic floor to the max. Coughing up nasty stuff. Then sneezing. Now sinuses are really painful above my nose and a dodgy tummy into the mix as well. What the fuck. Covid negative. It’s the most ill I’ve felt in a long time, and the longest duration.

Sorry to say many of these sound like covid. Which has not gone away and is not "just a cold."

Controversial but I’m reaching the end of my tether with this shit now - I’ve just discovered a bottle of penicillin at the back of the fridge from when one of the kids was unwell. It’s old but in date. Shall I take some until I can get a doctors appointment? Desperate for this to go now. I can barely go a few seconds without coughing and my whole upper body hurts so much when I do

What happened to colds where you felt better after a few days of being rough? I've had this for a good few weeks now! So sick of it. Plus can't sleep for coughing & coughing hurts my back 😫 just had a cry to DH who is trying to sleep. No remedies work, although a teaspoon of honey has been helpful when the cough hits hard.

I wouldn't take that penicillin OP. Make a GP appt if you can? Or phone 111?

I had the pneumonia shot. Exactly 8 days later and I was sick as a dog. I’m still not great. I’ve never felt this weak in my life. It’s a little scary. I wound up going to a clinic and got the ZPAC. I’m much better but I’ve never been hit with something this bad. I have no idea what I had and I’m still not the best. This is is in the us so I think you guys are going through the same sicknesses we are. I just want them to go away.

It’s just green bloody and snotty. My lungs hurt. I could barely breathe and my head felt like I wanted it off my body.

Tonsillitis? If you go to GP they can assess whether it's viral or bacterial, and if bacterial antibiotics will help a lot. DH had it recently and I was shocked with how poorly he was. Took about 10 days to improve with antibiotics

I can feel/hear this sensation/sound like tiny bits of popcorn popping in my throat as I breathe
I literally can’t stop coughing for more than a few seconds. Went to bed at 9 and not slept a wink yet. I just want it to go away 😩

Anyway, I do hope you get better. I don’t believe I’ve ever been sick this long but we always exaggerate things in our own heads. At least I do. Get well

Please don't take antibiotics without prescription. You need a full course otherwise you could be contributing to antibiotic resistance. GP got DH in the same day, which is very unusual for our surgery

That’s fluid in the lungs and you need a full course if antibiotics. Call your GP for an appointment today.

Day 10. Headache and fatigue, still some nose blowing but not nearly as bad.

I’m rarely ill but have had this bug twice this year already. Just getting rid of the second bout. It’s like a very intense, fast track cold for me.

first symptom was legs feeling like they were filled with cement. Then intense shivering and burning along with painful fatigue. No sleep for 2 nights due to blocked nose and scratchy throat. Sneezing so violent I nearly wet myself in public..

started to feel better on day 5 and almost back to normal now. Hopefully it won’t be back for round 3

Yep have had this dragging on for weeks now. Cough will not go. Feel quite down about it.

Well into week 3 of blocked ears and sore throat. This one is really nasty.

I’ve had a cold like that since January. Started off with weeks of sore throat, nowadays it’s all nose and annoying cough. Oh and blocked and itchy ears 🙃

My throat and chest hurt so much. Just constantly coughing and feeling like my throats really narrow.

Proper flu lasts at least a week. It's awful.

I had this, but I recovered surprisingly quickly. It was my third since Christmas. The others lasted weeks, but if you have what I just had, you might be find in other couple of days.

I have this. Currently day 6 and still feel absolutely dreadful. To make it even better, it seems to have spread to my eyes and the worst case of conjunctivitis I’ve ever knows. Constant thick gunk from my eyes, which are scratchy, dry and so swollen I look like someone who has had a severe allergic reaction (it’s definitely not that). I’m more poorly than I can remember being for a very long time.

I’m due to go abroad on a hiking holiday in a fortnight and I’m starting to panicking now…

I bumped into a dad from school earlier who said he’s had it for 2 weeks and still feeling awful. I’m actually starting to feel really down now, I feel like shit and I can’t even speak properly

5 weeks and feel much better in myself but still coughing a lot.

@Ricecakesaremyjam do you think you can see a GP tomorrow? Or have you seen someone?
