The person eating pasta at the pool...

It was me. I know it was weird. I kind of hid it in my coat which made it weirder and look like I was some sort of compulsive eater. Also felt massively unhygienic. A chocolate bar or crisps is normal in the spectator seats, but full on pasta in a tupperware!!!??? But I didn't have any other time and I hate cold pasta. If I'd eaten it in my car 4 year old dd wouldn't have had me watching her lesson. Sorry, so sorry to be the weird secret pasta shoveller...

Sooooo...what's the oddest place you've ever had dinner?

I don't know why you bothered hiding it?

I used to take full on picnics to swimming lessons when I had 3 on rotation 😂

Annascaul · 17/03/2025 19:42

You hate cold pasta? Surely it was cold by the time you got to the pool and got your child in the water?!

BendingSpoons · 17/03/2025 19:43

I say go for it! Not that weird, but as a student I would plate up my dinner and then eat it in the park opposite if the weather was nice (no garden). I did feel a bit odd sitting there with my proper plate and cutlery! I'm sure some other weird ones will come to mind soon.

Carouselfish · 17/03/2025 19:43

Nope. Still hot. Still feel dirty from doing it. Grin

I used to take my lunch and sit eating it while finishing my marking from school. Next time, take a linen napkin, proper cutlery and maybe a cruet. Be proud you are a multi tasking, totally handling it woman!

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/03/2025 19:44

The older I get, the less I GAF about people think. Fly your Freak Flag high.

I’ve eaten weird things in weirder places.

SingingSonnets · 17/03/2025 19:45

The only weird thing is that you tried to hide it.

Dirty? Do you have issues with food?

Littletreefrog · 17/03/2025 19:49

Just so you know no one cares about you eating pasta at the pool. You have made yourself look odd by hiding it in your coat not by eating pasta.

Shmee1988 · 17/03/2025 19:50

One of the women in my sons lessons eats her dinner at the pool. She then gives pasta in tupperwear to child number 1 while child number 2 swims and vice versa. She then showers them and brushes their teeth in the pool showers.

Carouselfish · 17/03/2025 19:53

No, dirty was me being amusing.
I'm glad other people do it! I've never seen anyone.

Jeez that's a bit far!

I wouldn't have noticed or cared. Eat your pasta while it is hot!

I used to have about 30 mins between after school club and beavers, 15 mins from home. We had fish & chips in the park for weeks on end through the spring/summer/autumn. I took plates, cutlery, sauces and the high chair and set us up at the picnic bench! Full on family tea in the park!

Needs must when kids are in clubs. As long as everyone is fed and you don't leave a mess, I reckon you're doing your best!

Why? It’s efficient!

I used to feed the kids at the pool, shower them, straight into pjs then home for teeth and bed

Chichz · 17/03/2025 19:59

When I saw your title I had a lovely, AI resort in mind and thought you'd snuck it out of the buffet 😅

AmandaHoldensLips · 17/03/2025 20:01

Does anybody else remember that episode of Nigella when she was eating marmite spaghetti on the bus?

Back in the days where I used to nanny 12 hour days, five days a week I used to do this too! One has a lesson (this was tennis not swimming!) other gets fed, (usually foil wrapped toasted sandwich or pasta or something substantial) swap, then use the club showers and bathrooms for hair wash, teeth and pjs. Home in a taxi and straight up to bed, so I could leave on time. Their schedules were so full on we ate dinners on the hop all over the place, occasionally on the top deck of a bus travelling back from somewhere, and lots of picnics in summer.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 17/03/2025 20:03

The only reason your post is weird is because you tried to hide it and your claim to feel dirty for eating pasta.

Maybe if you were eating it with your hands out of a paper bag or something you'd have a point but otherwise eating pasta in the spectator area is not in any way weird.

Yes, I agree but I bet she has it so easy when she gets home. She pops them both in their pj's after the shower and their ready for bed. If I didn't find brushing teeth in the pool showers so unbelievably disgusting I'd be tempted to follow suit lol

One of favourite meals, now I won’t stop thinking about it ….

Octavia64 · 17/03/2025 20:08

I wouldn’t brush teeth in the pool showers but we regularly had picnic tea by the pool or in the car between or on our way to activities. Completely normal. I used to love our Thursdays because cadets was by McDonald’s.

Hah, mine was also whilst nannying! The schedules were bananas 😂

Loub1987 · 17/03/2025 20:31

As long as you weren’t actually in the pool, I think it’s fine 😀

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 17/03/2025 20:55

@Carouselfish Oh AT the swimming pool. I misread your title as in the pool and was wondering how you pulled off a couple of lengths of butterfly stroke whilst eating a dish of spag bol 🤦.
Anyway, as you were.

Carouselfish · 17/03/2025 21:14

I mean dirty was an attempt at humour but also, the humidity, the bare hairy bods, the wet floors...not exactly conducive to feeling like eating a meal was hygienic.

OP posts:
Carouselfish · 17/03/2025 21:17

And yep, spitting in the showers cleaning teeth does sound too far!

But am glad to have a free MN pass to eat there in future! 👌

Also, wtf Nigella?? I love her.
