Why are people so angry on here

YourChirpyCoralAnt · 17/03/2025 19:08

I've seen a few posts where people are asking perfectly normal questions and the responses are insane.

I made a jokey post myself this afternoon and was met with one lady questioning my work ethics and my driving capabiliites, all because I said my husband sent me flowers at work after an argument.

It was completely not in context to what I'd posted and just seemed outright vicious.

Is this the norm here?

Yep people can be vile

SoftPillow · 17/03/2025 19:10

I think lots of people are angry and frustrated in real life, but can’t express it. So it comes out here where it feels safer to let it out

Ph3 · 17/03/2025 19:10

It can be at times. But I have posted in the past (started a thread) where I was feeling very vulnerable and honestly everyone who answered were really lovely and supportive offering different perspectives and I have to say it restored (a little bit) my faith in the internet.

Keyboard warriors!!

PickledElectricity · 17/03/2025 19:11

Come on now, is this your first day on the internet? There are wankers everywhere.

W0tnow · 17/03/2025 19:12

I think softpillow has nailed it. I also think sometimes the first few posts can set the tone of a thread.

Agree with this

I think if you venture away from AIBU to chat and relationships, you get more considered and genuinely helpful replies

This is why 😅

Not at all. It's just the complete out of context replies. Someone will say oh my baby picked up a snail today or something similar and the next thing there's comments about how her husband must be abusing her as she wasn't watching. Some of them are insane lol

I don't know about angry. Fuming and raging yes (especially if there are in laws involved). Angry, much less so...

Balhammom · 17/03/2025 19:14

My only tip is to choose the forum categories you read/post in. It doesn’t completely solve the problem but it helps!

Some parts of MN, such as anything discussing trans issues, are well known to be pretty vile, so any sane and balanced posters have long since left those bits to the usual extremist types.

breakfastdinnerandtea · 17/03/2025 19:16

It’s crazy isn’t it? The first few posts definitely set the tone. Sometimes, on longer threads, other posters come along and offer a different opinion and can occasionally change it, but not always.
I took a long break from MN, I’ve only come back on because I’m pregnant after a huge gap, but contemplating deleting it again because people are just awful.

ilovesooty · 17/03/2025 19:16

One person appears to have posted loads of replies that were deleted. I don't think you can judge a whole forum by that.

Thedogscollar · 17/03/2025 19:17

I think it's because it's an anonymous forum so people feel they can say anything and there's no come back.
I have seen a lot of amazingly supportive post though. Just ignore the others.

Let them think and say what they want. We have no control over this therefore why should we care.

Flomingho · 17/03/2025 19:17

I agree. Got completely bollocked for misunderstanding something on a thread the other day. 🤣

merrymelodies · 17/03/2025 19:19

Unjustified nastiness has been around for years. I’ve learned to ignore it.

NicolaCasanova · 17/03/2025 19:20

Because most of us are women and women being angry in public are not taken seriously and even ridiculed, etc. Society doesn’t allow us anger, (or our anger is mislabelled ‘emotion’) unless it’s fake anger in the male gaze like a woman slapping a man before fucking in a porno.

NicolaCasanova · 17/03/2025 19:20

Anger or rudeness?

Lentilweaver · 17/03/2025 19:22

It's one of the least angry places on the internet. Which is why I am here. Probably because it's mostly women. I have had death threats elsewhere.

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/03/2025 19:25

Nothing new here 😆

Have you tried Reddit? Absolute cesspit. I feel like forum options are really limited these days.

sometimesmovingforwards · 17/03/2025 19:27

I think it’s a window into the fact that a huge amount of people are indeed nutters.

A phone plus an anonymous forum identity just gives their inner weirdo has a place to chat.

gamerchick · 17/03/2025 19:28

Personally I don't think people get laid enough. Makes people frustrated and mad at the world

Createausername1970 · 17/03/2025 19:30

I do think there are a small number of posters on here who delight in being as unpleasant as they can be.

I give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they have problems in their private lives that they have no control over, so they take out their frustration on here.

OhCalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 17/03/2025 19:31

There are some pretty warped people on here. I edited a post to correct a spelling mistake yesterday and someone told me they just saw me posting child abuse then deleting it and they are reporting me 😳
