Dubai Chocolate….
Ridiculously over-rated?

I like Dubai chocolate but I much prefer to just eat the kataifi filling alone, as I adore kataifi!!! I’m on a diet currently, but when I reach my next big goal I’m going to treat myself by making and eating Osmaliyeh, which is the most delicious dessert made from kataifi.

I'm more of a knafeh gal, and I make it quite a bit (I should be on a diet...). This Dubai chocolate craze means my local Turkish shop has been out of kataifi for weeks as there's a supply issue because of demand. It's driving me mad.

So no, I don't like Dubai chocolate!!

SprinkleOfSunak · 14/03/2025 08:12

@bostonchamps

Oh yes, knafeh is also delicious!

My Daughters asked me to make Dubai chocolate a few weeks ago and we also had the same issue trying to buy kataifi. Hopefully the influencers will have moved on to something else in about a week and the kataifi will all be ours!

FatLarrysBanned · 14/03/2025 08:14

I didn't like it and I love most sweet things. Over rated and over priced.

stitchinguru · 14/03/2025 10:29

So …. I’m glad its not just me then.
Got some last night - bitterly disappointed. Turned down a bar of Tony’s in favour of it!
Gutted!

i’ve tried it and it’s nice but sickly, it’s like pistachio flavoured shredded wheat inside a chocolate bar

IvyTwines · 08/06/2025 21:59

I hadn't heard of it but a relative brought some from an overseas trip: first bite ok but then it felt sickly. The chocolate is on a level with Kinder egg (of which I am not a fan) and the sweetness overwhelmed the flavour of the filling.

I bought some the other week and it was deffo not worth it. But a colleague went to Dubai recently and said the real thing is gorgeous. It's only made by one chocolatier and they don't have a shop. They release it twice a day on Deliveroo hence why its so so expensive.

Surely it is not real Dubai chocolate unless it was made in Dubai anyway?
I thought there were rules about foods with regional names?

ButterBites · 09/06/2025 00:43

The original Dubai chocolate is amazing. The type of chocolate that makes you moan as you eat…

The knock offs you get in local supermarkets and airports really doesn’t compare and have turned it into a fad.

There are but I can’t remember if it’s only applicable to the UK or EU. Doesn’t apply to UAE which is why you have Dubai chocolate imitations everywhere.

nomas · 09/06/2025 00:51

I think a lot of people sneer at it just because it’s called Dubai chocolate.

Pistachios are adored in the Middle East and Asia so I can see the appeal.

Tesco is doing the Godiva version for £7.95 on Clubcard.

I live in the sticks and so none of this has passed my way, sob sob. The village cafe has just worked out how to do a decent flat white, so dubai chocolate will arrive here in about, ooh, 7 years.

Do you never leave your village? How very medieval!
