Dubai Chocolate….
Ridiculously over-rated?

I have seen it on FB, and it looked like a chocolate bar full of green moss. I don't get the appeal. Visually, it looks gross.

TooBigForMyBoots · 13/03/2025 23:54

Totally. I've had much better for a quarter of the price.

Hoydenish · 14/03/2025 00:00

I live in the sticks and so none of this has passed my way, sob sob. The village cafe has just worked out how to do a decent flat white, so dubai chocolate will arrive here in about, ooh, 7 years.

KimberleyClark · 14/03/2025 00:02

Never heard of it. I mean, obviously heard of Dubaibut not heard of Dubai chocolate as a thing.

xsquared · 14/03/2025 00:08

It seems very popular at the moment, a bit like this year's salted caramel or pulled pork.

Not had any myself, but I've googled to see what it was and why it's so popular, but I'm none the wiser as I've never had the dessert the filling is based on either.

Ponoka7 · 14/03/2025 00:29

My DD loves pistachio, so she likes it. The lindor pistachio are rank. She also buys the pistachio cream from costco and makes her own version. These trends are good when it's your favourite foods that are suddenly everywhere.

Yep got a thin small bar for 16 quid at dubai Airport. It is nice but not 16 quid nice.

I live in the sticks! I mean really in the stocks and our wee village shop has it!

Ten quid a bar! I was shocked when I saw it as I've not heard of it. They were all sold within a week!

Ten quid!!! 🙀🙀

lavenderlou · 14/03/2025 00:34

I have a friend from Dubai who makes it. It's nice - reminds me a bit of chocolate cornflake cakes. Wouldn't pay huge amounts for it though.

onelostsoulswimminginafishbowl · 14/03/2025 01:18

I love it, love pistachio and kataifi and chocolate so it's a win for me!

However I had no idea of the price when I asked my mum to pick some up for me at the airport in Dubai 😯😯

Definitely not worth that price.

Greek brand 'Break' have released one for €4.5 that I will stock up on in the summer

Back21970 · 14/03/2025 01:27

Good but not worth the price, £6 in my local shop for a very small handmade bar, comes in milk and white chocolate, the white is the best IMO.

I thought about ordering the Lindt ones online as look much better value.

BreadInCaptivity · 14/03/2025 01:28

DH picked some up for me on a business trip. It’s massively overrated.

It reminded me of overly sweet cornflake cakes.

To be fair I much prefer expensive dark chocolate in general so I’m not the best taster in this regard, but even DH (who has zero chocolate snobbery) said he’d rather a pack of Munchies (or about 5 for the same price)

CheekyPombear · 14/03/2025 02:05

No there not worth it.
In morrisons you can buy a box of milk tray for the price you would pay for one of the dubai bars.

KimberleyClark · 14/03/2025 02:17

I love Ion chocolate, a Greek brand, especially the hazelnut one.

Well Milk Tray are gross and cheap. Dubai chocolate is just a fad and will be over soon.

SprinkleOfSunak · 14/03/2025 04:35

I like Dubai chocolate but I much prefer to just eat the kataifi filling alone, as I adore kataifi!!! I’m on a diet currently, but when I reach my next big goal I’m going to treat myself by making and eating Osmaliyeh, which is the most delicious dessert made from kataifi.

knitnerd90 · 14/03/2025 05:08

I adore pistachio and kataifi and chocolate but I dare say the quality of it will depend on the maker.

arcticpandas · 14/03/2025 05:27

Disgusting. And I love chocolate and nuts but it's just too much filling. Looks like vomit btw🤮

Changeissmall · 14/03/2025 05:39

Slightly off topic but re one of the PP. one of the DC got a big box of milk tray at Christmas and we were eating some the other night. They were actually 10 x better than I remembered. New fillings and no goopy strawberry and orange creme things.

Anyway. The Dubai chocolate is great. Not the Costco version though. And not worth the money.

Arrivals4lucky · 14/03/2025 06:32

Over rated, like everything else about Dubai!

RipleyGreen · 14/03/2025 06:36

Spent a fortune on a bar of the genuine stuff. It was disappointing.

blubberball · 14/03/2025 06:49

I haven't seen any around. You'd think it would all just instantly melt in Dubai

LivesinLondon2000 · 14/03/2025 07:37

I love it. It is quite sweet though but if you have a sweet tooth and love pistachio you will like it.
I’m not one of those people who only like expensive dark chocolate though - it’s the sweetness & texture I like so I also love things like truffles, pralines etc.

I know! Naively I didn’t look at the price and just grabbed two bars at the till…. 🤦🏼‍♀️

AlmosttimeforChristmas · 14/03/2025 07:48

the first time I had it I thought it was amazing but second time realised how sickly it is. Dark chocolate would be better. And shockingly expensive compared to what I was expecting
