Stunning or beautiful

That stunning is more of a compliment than beautiful

Jemandthehollograms · 10/03/2025 17:42

Definitely stunning!

Butchyrestingface · 10/03/2025 17:43

Radiant tops either. 😊

VivaVivaa · 10/03/2025 17:43

I’d be happy to be called either right now to be honest 😅

irenestubbs · 10/03/2025 17:44

And this is a compliment from a man

I'd say the opposite! Beautiful sounds more classy and about your inherent natural looks. I associate 'stunning' with shit newspapers saying '21 year-old blonde stunner, Tracy' etc.

DoYouReally · 10/03/2025 17:45

I think stunning can be both permanent or temporary. (I.e. looked stunning on wedding day).

Beautiful is less fleeting.

Tbh, it depends on the compliment covers definition.

irenestubbs · 10/03/2025 17:48

Or gorgeous?

Stunning
Beautiful
Or gorgeous

I find stunning to be a bit downmarket. Like a previous poster said it smacks of tabloid smuttiness. Page 3 and all that.

ItGhoul · 10/03/2025 17:53

What's the context for this? Why are you asking?

I would prefer to be called beautiful as I think 'stunning' is an overused cliche, but I wouldn't give it any actual headspace.

Nah, radiant is just what people say when you are getting married or pregnant. It doesn't mean much!

RaspberryScrubs · 10/03/2025 17:54

tbh stunning pairs with brave nowadays so nah, I would put stunning in the bin.

Yep, this too!

I prefer clever.
Or kind.
Or nice.
Or helpful.
But perhaps I'm just pig-ugly.

irenestubbs · 10/03/2025 18:02

I've been called gorgeous by one man
And stunning by another

No overthinking either just what would you prefer

No I don't agree.

You can look radiant when you're glowing but not particularly beautiful or stunning.

Words come cheap and often with an agenda.

I would look at how they treat you overall as opposed to random compliments but that's just me.

Onthemove4 · 10/03/2025 18:11

I think stunning is a much overused word rather in the same way so many things are amazing.

I was in the McDonald’s drive thru recently. When I got to the kiosk a young girl popped her head out and said with sincerity “I love your car, it’s stunning!

My car is an 10 year old bright orange Honda Jazz 🤷‍♀️ 😆

EmotionalSupportShotgun · 10/03/2025 18:12

I would prefer to be called beautiful, but it hasn't happened yet and I don't think it will now.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 10/03/2025 18:13

I know i am not beautiful, but I will accept lovely.

Fifthtimelucky · 10/03/2025 18:14

I think more people are beautiful than are truly stunning, so I think stunning is more of a compliment.

However, I agree that stunning is overused more these days, so beautiful would be better!

GlitteringBall · 10/03/2025 18:16

Depends who was saying it and what their agenda is. It's just words. Don't read too much into either.

5128gap · 10/03/2025 18:18

Beautiful is the go to compliment amongst younger men 'you're beautiful you are' to mean they fancy you, its so overused its devalued. Stunning is a bit tabloidy to me 'page three stunna' so not keen on that either really.
I'd rather have something personal and genuine that I could actually believe. (Though in fairness 'wearing well for your age and pretty when the lightings too low to see your wrinkles' is hardly cassanova territory.)

Most men will say anything to get what they want.
