Neighbour mocking me?

I live in a semi detached and can hear my neighbour repeating what I say in a mocking tone.

This afternoon my husband was upstairs and shouted down to me, I said “what are you talking about” and then heard my neighbour say “what are you talking about” or when I laugh I can hear them repeat it in the same tone.

It’s getting boring now. Aibu?

Have they got a pet parrot?

Do you know them? Why would they be mocking you? Are you being very loud or are your walls paper thin?

I would say they are venting about noise levels rather than mocking you.

You must be incredibly loud if they can hear you that clearly.

I think they are trying to tell you how annoying you are…

Has anyone else heard them?

Do you ever hear them? If so do the same back. If not, as pp say, it sounds as though you are very noisy and this is their (childish) way of dealing with it.

It’s a passive aggressive way of pointing out they can hear you…maybe you are being too loud?

My house was built in 1890.

It's definitely their way of telling you that you are too noisy. Why shout up and down the stairs to each other? That just be so annoying if your neighbours can hear you.

Can you hear your neighbours speaking to each other?

Can you hear them when they talk normally to one another as well? Or just when they are "mocking" you?

If the former, you have very thin walls and might want to think about insulating and being mindful of being loud. If the latter then just stop shouting at one another.

In that case probably not shoddily built with no sound proofing. So you must be VERY loud 😖

If you can't hear their conversation we'll enough to parrot every word they say then you are definitely being too loud and they are being passive aggressive about letting you know.

I think the OP is realising she must be incredibly loud in the house and that's why the neighbour is mocking her. Not sure she is going to reply to any of us asking her if she's being too loud
