Neighbour mocking me?

kularni · 09/03/2025 17:44

I live in a semi detached and can hear my neighbour repeating what I say in a mocking tone.

This afternoon my husband was upstairs and shouted down to me, I said “what are you talking about” and then heard my neighbour say “what are you talking about” or when I laugh I can hear them repeat it in the same tone.

It’s getting boring now. Aibu?

"I CAN FUCKING HEAR YOU GEOFFREY, YOU TIT."

Seeline · 09/03/2025 17:46

Have they got a pet parrot?

angelikacpickles · 09/03/2025 17:46

Do you know them? Why would they be mocking you? Are you being very loud or are your walls paper thin?

Mwnci123 · 09/03/2025 17:47

I would say they are venting about noise levels rather than mocking you.

Bluenotgreen · 09/03/2025 17:49

You must be incredibly loud if they can hear you that clearly.

I think they are trying to tell you how annoying you are…

GreyAreas · 09/03/2025 17:51

Has anyone else heard them?

VexedofVirginiaWater · 09/03/2025 17:53

Do you ever hear them? If so do the same back. If not, as pp say, it sounds as though you are very noisy and this is their (childish) way of dealing with it.

user5213768943 · 09/03/2025 17:57

It’s a passive aggressive way of pointing out they can hear you…maybe you are being too loud?

LovelyHund · 09/03/2025 17:59

Maybe you have an echo.

Iamallowedtodisagreewithyou · 09/03/2025 17:59

you're too loud

stop bellowing at each other up and down the stairs and wait till you're in the same room before speaking! It's rude to shout out to someone in another room, never mind the neighbours!

This ^

They're mocking your loud voice not what you're saying

Passive aggressively tryingtoget you to quieten down

You must be incredibly loud.
Or live in very low quality attached housing.

What classes as low quality attached housing?

My house was built in 1890.

It's definitely their way of telling you that you are too noisy. Why shout up and down the stairs to each other? That just be so annoying if your neighbours can hear you.

Can you hear your neighbours speaking to each other?

Sounds like you are much too loud.

Schoolchoicesucks · 09/03/2025 18:09

Can you hear them when they talk normally to one another as well? Or just when they are "mocking" you?

If the former, you have very thin walls and might want to think about insulating and being mindful of being loud. If the latter then just stop shouting at one another.

In that case probably not shoddily built with no sound proofing. So you must be VERY loud 😖

skippy67 · 09/03/2025 18:11

They're telling you to pipe down...

FOJN · 09/03/2025 18:13

If you can't hear their conversation we'll enough to parrot every word they say then you are definitely being too loud and they are being passive aggressive about letting you know.

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 09/03/2025 18:16

Might change my name to LowQualityAttachedHousing...

MarioJumbo · 09/03/2025 18:18

YANBU OP

This would absolutely get to me

JMSA · 09/03/2025 18:19

It couldn't just be the neighbour being an arsehole, no?

And even if the OP were too loud, he could always just have a word with her rather than blatantly take the piss.

Sure, it would get to me too, but think how annoyed the neighbours must be? They just be fed up of OP bellowing

CucumberBagel · 09/03/2025 18:20

Or they could have echolalia?

Love how this is the only post you respond to... Are you loud in the house?

Princesspollyyy · 09/03/2025 18:28

I think the OP is realising she must be incredibly loud in the house and that's why the neighbour is mocking her. Not sure she is going to reply to any of us asking her if she's being too loud
