Neighbour mocking me?

kularni · 09/03/2025 17:44

I live in a semi detached and can hear my neighbour repeating what I say in a mocking tone.

This afternoon my husband was upstairs and shouted down to me, I said “what are you talking about” and then heard my neighbour say “what are you talking about” or when I laugh I can hear them repeat it in the same tone.

It’s getting boring now. Aibu?

If you're bored of hearing your neighbour repeating you, think about how their feeling about having to listen to you. You and your partner need to talk to each other not shout.

Are you being noisy? The only way to stop them is to make it so they cannot hear you.

Otherwise - Ask ChatGPT to make a funny song with neighbours name and how he mimmicks you, then sing it really loud. Or...."WHEN MY NEIGHBOURS IN HIS ROOM HE LIKES TO TOUCH AN ELF."

I actually disagree with pp in that I think hearing your neighbours a handful of times a day is par for the course in terraced housing, your neighbours need to get over themselves (unless you're having whole convos shouting up and down stairs of course).

I hear my own neighbours on both sides practically every day but that's the nature of this sort of housing.

Totally agree. The fact that she can hear them mocking her seems to have been missed by most people. Must have thin walls for them to be able to hear each other. Sound proofing the adjoining walls seems the best idea.

You know you disturb your neighbour when you shout indoors, but you all keep yelling at each other? Your neighbour isnt the one in the wrong here

H0210zero · 10/03/2025 20:45

Just start saying random things like "I suck wet c@£k" etc. when they repeat just yell back. "I didn't think you were that way inclined"

Ashshandmaid · 10/03/2025 20:45

I fucking hate people bellowing from other rooms or floors. Why are you shouting at each other from different floors? You're probably very loud. Can you hear them in their day to day conversation? They're definitely trying to let you know how loud you are.

You must be incredibly loud.
Or live in very low quality attached housing.

Jesus Christ. 😂 this reply is more Mumsnet than Mumsnet.

TwinklySquid · 10/03/2025 21:54

Can other people hear them?
Have you had your gas checked recently?

ShineBrighterxx · 10/03/2025 21:58

You need to move house. It’s one thing having an argument with your other half, then to hear it through your neighbours wall… no thanks 😬

Do the same back. Or just shout I CAN HEAR YOU name.

Jumpers4goalposts · 11/03/2025 06:48

You must be loud I think they are fed up and it’s their way of coping. Can you hear everything they say?

ClearHoldBuild · 11/03/2025 06:49

Use it as an opportunity. Ask for dinner suggestions, do they know what the weather is going to do today, can you borrow a cup of sugar. Better than Alexa.

"I CAN FUCKING HEAR YOU GEOFFREY, YOU TIT."

Love this!!!!! Perfect response!!!!
I have an adjoining neighbour and we can each hear almost everything that goes on in the others ones house but pretend we don't lol. We get on incredibly well and they are lovely people. The only time this facade has been broken was me texting them to apologise for my blood curdling scream, I was cleaning the stairs and a mahoosive spider, so big you could see it's bra and pants, dropped down next to me lol. And, when there was a sudden clatter of pots and pans and i squealed and shouted, you scared the shit out of me, and I heard raucous laughter lol.
