Gah, the sector I work in (Property) is so annoying with all the social media posts and LinkedIn wankery. I have to keep a hand in because of my job, but it mostly makes me want to vomit.

So many people now on Facebook are spilling their LinkedIn shite to their FB feeds too which also makes me want to vomit.

I know social media is a very powerful tool in business but Mary's old school mates/aunties/uncles etc don't give a shiney shite about a property they have at work to let for £5k a month. or what exciting training course they went on yesterday.

Yanbu! It's the most self serving nonsense! Why is everyone "thrilled" to announce a benign pointless training course they went on? No one has ever gone on linked in for anything other than self service- to gain a "network" , to get a job, to sell something etc etc. it's made up of bullshit and many jobs (mine included) need all the bullshit to succeed. So I participate. But I hate it and I hate myself for being a part of it.

Academia is like that too!

LinkedIn is just like Facebook. It was good when it started, but has turned into something else now and is largely useless.

At work we're refreshing our values so I introduced my team to Wankernomics. I can't do the nonsense even though I'm supposed to buy into it and 'cascade' the management speak. It can be painful.
My LinkedIn is out of date and I can't stand it when colleagues post earnest bullshit about "I was thinking how best to do xyz at the weekend, and came across this amazing HBR article..."

It's so cringeworthy - but as is most social media, tbh. So many people seem to have an inflated sense of their own self importance, whether it's sharing countless selfies or inane details about what they're doing at work this week. And all of it of very little importance.

My mantra to social media these days is it's better to say nothing and be be thought of as boring than constantly posting and making yourself look a prat.

its like upper management have to show case themselves to each other, ill admit is intriguing but the people they would prefer to be interested in their posts are not using linked in, and the ones that do are already around their level and knowledge etc

I enjoy LinkedIn wankery. It’s refreshingly honest wankery. It’s a work network and we’re all busy flogging something on there. I’m currently selling myself/soul as I need to line up a new job next year. LinkedIn is boring and suity and we all know exactly what we’re there for.

Facebook on the other hand is an algorithmically

I work in construction in a technical role, most of the people who post in my sector don’t know what they’re talking about. The content is purely about who shouts the loudest rather than who knows their stuff.

I agree. It's dreadful. I'm on there because I feel I should be for work but I'd never be able to post anything without cringing myself inside out.

I have been enjoying linked in recently - some great training tools and blogs relevant to me and my team. Also a positive and supportive community that you don’t see on other platforms. Maybe it depends who you follow. I did do a bit of a wankery post about my post grad distinction but that was political with a small p as nasty toxic work bully told me it would be above me and too hard so seeing my exec team liking my post and knowing she saw it was nice. That was my first post in 3 years as I’m usually a reader.

Dumping my linkedin account was one of the best things about retiring.

Linkedin is fucking awful. Once it was fairly useful for recruitment, but now it is entirely populated by self-promoting wankers and their "10 reasons why your employees hate you" posts.

Just fucking burn it to the ground.

One of my colleagues has posted her weight loss ‘journey’ on there cross referencing it with how she always loved her clients and is there 24/7 ( DM me if YOU want to know about AI innovation!) for them but how she realised she wasn’t loving herself enough.
So now you can teach her between 7am and 8pm only cos she’s off loving herself in the gym or meal prepping or some such bullshit.
