I want a really understated wedding dress which is extremely comfortable to wear. I have found this wedding dress that I like and to my surprise it is satin. The thing is I have already bought my bridesmaid dresses which are are also that satin slip dress look. Does it look weird to not have a contrast re material? To me it does but I really love the bridesmaid dresses and my dress separately. I have to place the order today to ensure everything arrives in time. I felt gorgeous in the dress and to me with a veil and flowers in my hair it just the ticket.

It will look a bit mental if we’re all in satin right? Some of bridesmaids agree it’s a no go but others say who cares

also I know the stain slip dress for bridesmaids has been done to death but we have found a style that has multiple styles to suit everyone and I like the colour. I can’t dedicate too much effort on finding something else or I will go crazy.

It won't look mental at all, I think they go lovely together and it's your wedding day - you wear whatever you want ❤️

Octonaut4Life · 03/03/2025 14:23

It's absolutely fine. It's your wedding. Do what YOU want.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 03/03/2025 14:24

Totally fine IMO

Sadhappiness · 03/03/2025 14:24

I think they go together really well. The wedding dress stands out because of the train. It's clearly not the same dress in different colours. It's a lovely dress.

toomuchfaff · 03/03/2025 14:24

Go for it.

If anyone thinks it's weird, remind them it's a good job it's not their wedding day...

looks beautiful

Pancakeflipper · 03/03/2025 14:24

I don't think the material is an issue, but to me from the photos, the bridesmaid dresses look better quality.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 03/03/2025 14:24

My wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses were all made out of the same fabric (different colour) and it was fine, they complemented well.

Headabovetheparapets · 03/03/2025 14:27

Looks fine to me, bride will obviously stand out due to different colour & veil/headpiece differences.
if you like it that’s what matters🤗

HiCandles · 03/03/2025 14:27

Both dresses are lovely in their own right and together. Honestly, nobody else will stand there at the wedding saying 'ooh I can't believe they're both satin'. I wasn't even aware there was a thing about them contrasting. At my wedding, I had a capped sleeve princess style ballgown with a heavily beaded top, and I deliberately picked a similar capped sleeve lacy top with an A line skirt for my bridesmaids. So their dresses were of a similar look to mine but just, less.

Cruer · 03/03/2025 14:28

I worry it will look like we are ALL in our nighties. I think you can get away with doing either or. Gahhh maybe I am overthinking this

I don’t like this look for the reason you said - it looks like you’re wearing your nighties.

But, that’s a personal preference about the dresses.

I’ve been never heard of a rule suggesting they must be in different materials. In fact, quite the opposite. I’ve been to plenty of weddings where bridesmaid dresses were deliberately in the same material to provide a more co-ordinated look,

I think the only slight issue here is that the simplicity of this style of dress does make the wedding dress look more like a glorified bridesmaid dress. That’s due to the style, not the material. With a veil on, the difference will be more marked so maybe less of an issue. But for me, I’d prefer a dress that’s a significantly different style to the bridesmaids - this looks like a bridesmaid dress in a different colour with a train.

Really sorry OP 🫣 Probably will the veil it won’t look as samey- if you love it, get it. I promise no one will judge you for having the same material!

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 03/03/2025 14:55

I think it's quite nice that the fabric is the same... however, satin is unforgiving!

desperatedaysareover · 03/03/2025 14:56

I like them. I like the fact they’re the same cut and fabric. The bridesmaid dresses photograph better but I’m assuming the wedding dress comes to life on you. The world seems to be divided into people who think they’re nightie-like and people who think not😂 slip dresses are enduringly popular though!

If you feel the wedding dress needs to be more striking than or have more differentiation from the bridesmaids dresses could you go for a little lace or beaded capelet, or a stole or a neckpiece or, well, whatever you like! Will you have a veil?

I don’t particularly like this dress at the front, the neckline is a bit harsh, but it’s just for an example of how a simple slip with an overlay dress could be another alternative?

Lotsofthings · 03/03/2025 15:11

I think they look great together, go for it. 😀

mumzof4x · 03/03/2025 15:12

Gorgeous

SwingLifeAway · 03/03/2025 15:36

I actually really like the idea of you all matching but just you in white… but all that matters is what you think and are you going to look back and regret it one way or the other?

Bigearringsbigsmile · 03/03/2025 15:38

The satin is fine but they look like nighties or underskirts

CanOfMangoTango · 03/03/2025 15:40

The dresses are beautiful but I'd never wear a satin dress if I'm honest, it will crease instantly.

You'll be walking up the aisle with marks round your hips and knees where you've been sat in the car.

Guarantee the models in those pics have had the dresses steamed while they wear them.

FiveBarGate · 03/03/2025 16:01

Are you all very slender?

Those dresses look great on the models but it is every lump and bump on show. If you are all body confident, brilliant, go for it. But if I was conscious about my tummy id hate to be asked to wear that. There's no hiding anything.

BasicBeach · 03/03/2025 16:04

YABU
Unreasonably GLAMOROUS!!!
Gonna look amazing 😍

chocmalt · 03/03/2025 16:05

I would assume they were coordinated intentionally. If you love the dress, I wouldn't overthink it, because no-one else will scrutinise it more than you do, as the bride.

Fillybuster · 03/03/2025 16:06

I think they’ll all look rather lovely together. Go for it, OP!

Whoarethoseguys · 03/03/2025 16:07

I don't see the issue at all. Just get what you want . personally I think it's better that they are the same style/fabric

LilacSeal · 03/03/2025 16:10

Honest opinion:

It’s not something I’d go for myself, satin shows every lump and bump and creases easily so I wouldn’t choose to wear it for my wedding dress and would secretly hate being asked to wear it as a bridesmaid

However, if you love it then go for it!! It’s your day. I am really sure no one will judge but if they do, who cares.

zaxxon · 03/03/2025 16:11

They're both gorgeous, not remotely like nighties IMO - that would never occur to me
