I want a really understated wedding dress which is extremely comfortable to wear. I have found this wedding dress that I like and to my surprise it is satin. The thing is I have already bought my bridesmaid dresses which are are also that satin slip dress look. Does it look weird to not have a contrast re material? To me it does but I really love the bridesmaid dresses and my dress separately. I have to place the order today to ensure everything arrives in time. I felt gorgeous in the dress and to me with a veil and flowers in my hair it just the ticket.

It will look a bit mental if we’re all in satin right? Some of bridesmaids agree it’s a no go but others say who cares

also I know the stain slip dress for bridesmaids has been done to death but we have found a style that has multiple styles to suit everyone and I like the colour. I can’t dedicate too much effort on finding something else or I will go crazy.

They are lovely dresses and go really well together.
I don't see what the problem is OP

Movinghouseatlast · 03/03/2025 16:23

I think they go really well together and are both beautiful dresses.

snotathing · 03/03/2025 16:24

Satin dresses look best on those with flawless figures with no lumps or bumps. You need to be careful about lining the bust and selecting the right bras or there can be nipples on show.

whycantibeselfishforonce · 03/03/2025 16:24

Both gorgeous 😍definitely overthinking OP!

mindutopia · 03/03/2025 16:24

For me personally, together they say this is quite a casual, barefoot on the beach, flowers in hair sort of wedding. Is that the kind of wedding you’re having? I think the wedding dress could be dressed up a bit with a bolero for the ceremony (especially if in a church), something to make it look more formal.

ERthree · 03/03/2025 16:43

Yxou are over thinking it.

I worry it will look like we are ALL in our nighties. I think you can get away with doing either or. Gahhh maybe I am overthinking this

I think they look good together.
also
soemone could say that you look like you are in your nighties.
but if that’s true it would look funny if you were wearing a nightie and the bridesmaids were wearing something more formal.

I think they look good together. And with flowers etc you will have a harmonious scheme.

enjoy your day.

you found your dress!

ThejoyofNC · 03/03/2025 16:44

I think they're far too similar. The bride should stand out amongst the party in my opinion.

Also as PP stated, the dresses don't even look particularly flattering on the very thin models!

Supperlite · 03/03/2025 16:46

I put UABU to think they don’t go I think it’ll be lovely!

YouWouldntKnowWhatIMean · 03/03/2025 16:52

I think the wedding dress is lovely and doesn't look like a nightie at all!. I've never heard that the dresses need to be different from each other. It wouldn't worry me in the slightest- the most important thing is that YOU like it and feel good!

snowflakelake · 03/03/2025 16:55

I don't think it matters at all that they are the same fabric.
If you want to wear the dress and it makes you feel good then wear it.

Go with what you feel the most comfortable in. It’ll look beautiful and will flow together just as you see it. Happy wedding.

RuthW · 03/03/2025 16:58

Your choice but they do look like nighties.

crashbandicooty · 03/03/2025 16:59

They go together beautifully! Really elegant

ArabellaWeird · 03/03/2025 17:02

All in satin fine, not mental

Underwear underwear underwear

Take a steamer to the venue so you can whip it out for a once over when you all get out of the car before you go down the aisle

Catherine Deane has some beautiful jackets if you want to add something to yours to differentiate along with the veil

MissUltraViolet · 03/03/2025 17:02

They go together really well and are such different colours you will 100% still stand out.

You love your dress, you love the bridesmaid dresses.

Your decision is already made really! Fuck what anyone else thinks.

Nameftgigb · 03/03/2025 17:06

Once you have the veil on/flowers etc, it’ll look fine

Lotsofthings · 03/03/2025 17:18

I don’t think they look like nighties, they are sort of 30’s slip dresses. I’m thinking Downtown Abbey and the Great Gatsby.

Doingmybestbut · 03/03/2025 17:22

I like them 🙂

Cruer · 03/03/2025 17:36

Thanks for all the input. I spoke to my sister and we agreed to find a similar silhouette in a different material. I enjoy the simplicity of the dress but think I can possibly find something I like more on a cohesive level. I don’t like how matchy it would be.

Thanks again.

There was a time when bridesmaid dresses were intentionally co-ordinated with the bridal gown- similar cut and fabric. The bridal dress is clearly different with colour, accessories, length and train. I think they all look fine and not at all like "nighties".

JMSA · 03/03/2025 17:49

Gorgeous!

LaineyCee · 03/03/2025 17:51

Looks gorgeous and will be absolutely stunning with bridesmaid dresses. Go for it!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 03/03/2025 17:55

I think satin can make even a ultra slim person look bumpy. Its not flattering ime.

Bfmamma · 03/03/2025 18:55

Definitely won't look mental and even if it did - who cares? It's your wedding, no one elses
Where what you want and what you feel most comfortable in or you will regret your choice!
