Basically a mate I've known about 4 years and see rather regularly always makes reference to my height. She's like oh I can barely see you you're so short. All the time. Aibu to call her out ?

Of course. Tell her that she keeps saying the same thing and you'd like her to stop.

ExpensiveBiscuits · 23/02/2025 19:03

Are you short? Is it a source of potential shame to you?
I'm short. No-one could shame me about it because it is nothing to be ashamed of.

How will you "call her out?" Is she a lot taller-how will your words carry up to her great height? Do you literally mean to actually "call", with a loudspeaker?

Short arses unite! Rejoice in being petite. Failing that, buy high heels or carry a step ladder.

I'm 5 foot 3

That's practically average. I'm shorter than that.

Have you written about this before? Every single person in your life mocks your height.

Sometimeswinning · 23/02/2025 19:08

I have a few friends who are probably your height. I don’t make jokes but they are made in good humour. Maybe make it clear your sense of humour doesn’t stretch that far.

Me too- I wouldn’t consider myself super short.

BoudiccaRising · 23/02/2025 19:08

Tell her to shut up

NormasArse · 23/02/2025 19:09

How tall is she?

Lostworlds · 23/02/2025 19:09

I’m small and I had a friend who regularly made fun of me for it, as did her husband. I don’t mind the off small joke but when it’s constant, it just gets boring and irritating. I ended up just calling them out on it, said it felt very high school and not funny anymore.
They apologised for hurting my feelings but I wasn’t upset, I was just fed up of it.

Sweetloveandcheese · 23/02/2025 19:09

About 5 foot 6?

In fact, I wouldn't even call you short so I withdraw my rallying call of Short Arses Unite because you are not one of us.

ShamrockShenanigans · 23/02/2025 19:10

Bit of a strange question really.

She's your friend, of course you should tell her if you don't like it.

Not strange. I have issues confronting things like this.

She's not really a friend to keep making fun of you. Next time she says it I would reply back with "yeah Jane that joke is getting a bit old now".

NormasArse · 23/02/2025 19:11

“Give it up BFG, you’re only 3” taller than me.”

But if Mumsnet tells you to call her out, you'll still have issues won't you?

If you don't like it then tell her. Otherwise you'll just have to put up with it.

I'm not sure if you have kids but if you do or if you want them in the future, you'll have to get used to sticking up for them so it's best to start practicing on yourself.

Killam · 23/02/2025 19:14

Weird -both of you are basically average height, so seems like she's just kidding? I think this is just that your friend has got fixated on an injoke that doesn't work for you.

You can very easily shut this down by just saying this joke is tired. I'm not short. You're not tall. The average height is 5'4. Let's put this one to bed now as I'm tired of it. She will be a bit red faced and drop it.

I'm 5' O". 5' 3" is quite tall to me...

Ddakji · 23/02/2025 19:17

Oh, FFS. How is this body shaming? Call her out? What an overreaction.

You can join the Short Arses Unite Group! @UnctuousUnicorns

@Sweetloveandcheese You will have to form Average Height Group-you and your friend-who are both more or less average height-can be founding members.
