SONOS speaker system has been unusable for months

We have 3 Sonos speakers, Spotify will no longer connect to these. Resorted to using the Sonos app which is pretty crap at the best of times but trying to use it currently is awful- it is slow and laggy and painful.

Looking at twitter it seems like LOTS of users are having these issues.

The "help" that has been offered has been no use.

Anyone here suffering the same?

This might be too niche I don't know 🤔

YES! Very annoying as the sonos was way more expensive than the echos which we use instead now

themusicsoundsbetterwithpoo · 21/02/2025 19:31

It's so frustrating! I can't believe they have messed things up so badly.

Spotify still connects to my Sonos soundbar without any problem. I haven't tried it with the Sonos Play 1 though.

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 21/02/2025 19:36

Not quite unusable but has been slowly losing functionality for a long time now - radio etc, awkwardness of the SONOS App.

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 21/02/2025 19:37

Feels like planned obsolescence. So frustrating, both financially and environmentally…

Bubobubo · 21/02/2025 19:38

I have a pretty old speaker, and the app works, just about.
It's not great.
I can get the radio and spotify on it.

It took a lot of fiddling to get it sorted.

crystal90210 · 21/02/2025 19:39

I've got 5 Sonos devices and all are fairly useless now. Will never buy another Sonos product

0ohLarLar · 21/02/2025 19:40

We've struggled with ours for a while. If they don't sort it we would not buy Sonos again.

mjf981 · 21/02/2025 19:41

I looked into buying one last year. However you have to use your phone/app to change the volume and turn in on/off which seems ridiculous to me. I bought a Samsung sound bar for half the price and am very happy with it.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 21/02/2025 19:50

Same here, we have 5 of them and although the were bought a while ago I’m really disappointed that they’ve become pretty much useless.

Hmmm I didn't even think of that! Ours are fairly old (in the grand scheme of technology) I guess. But surely it must hurt their brand to have this many people moaning about them!

Yes!! We thought it was because we changed our internet provider but every other device in the house works fine!

BoilingHotand50something · 21/02/2025 20:43

We had terrible trouble with ours, but we now use a powerline pass through plug on each of ours and connect them via Ethernet. It still sometimes plays up, but has kept them usable for most of the time. You need to connect one plug to your router and then pair additional plugs as required.

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 21/02/2025 20:44

Ah. Yes I should have said, we have Ethernet / CAT 5 installed and each is hardwired into it. Perhaps that’s why ours still - kind of - work.

Quietnowplease · 21/02/2025 20:58

Their app update has been absolutely disastrous. Fuck knows why they just didn't go back to the old one. They completely deleted the alarm to begin with, and then it worked and now it's not working again - I can not get it to play the radio in the morning.

Spotify does however work for me.

The CEO is off.... They have fucked the company.

If I could afford to replace the whole lot I would, but it cost me a fortune and I loved it until their shit app.

randomer123 · 21/02/2025 21:21

The really ruined the app, laggy and rubbish now. Speakers also cut out which they never did before the "upgrade". Will never buy another Sonos product and will tell others to steer clear.
I'm guessing they ballsed up the app to make their new headphones product work and can't / won't roll it back.

If they had any sense they'd open it up to others to make apps or offer those with no headphones the opportunity to use an older version of the app.

Really pisses me off they ruined a perfectly good product.

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 21/02/2025 21:22

Oh god, yes, the weird noise that they call an alarm that comes on when it can’t connect to the radio…

Funykeudfh · 21/02/2025 21:24

Hi! My friend is a regional manager for sonos. It has had some massive issues recently. Top tip - you need to plug into it with an Ethernet cable rather than rely on WiFi. You need to reset the whole system, uninstall all your apps and reinstall (including alexa if you use this with sonos) then it should work. We did it and now everything works again but we had to use an Ethernet cable.

The speakers have volume controls!

SuffolkBargeWoman · 21/02/2025 21:28

I bought a Sonos Move so I could, you know, move it around. Which makes plugging it into an Ethernet cable rather unattractive

northerner100 · 21/02/2025 21:28

I had to reset 2 of mine very close to the router. They've been fine ever since.

ExtraOnions · 21/02/2025 21:29

I’ve got a big old speaker, and it works with the Spotify App fine

No you only need to plug a static one into ethernet like the arc for example. Then the rest will work.

The speakers have volume controls!

And alexa etc too can be used to control volume.

MasterBeth · 21/02/2025 21:34

It's not planned obsolescence, it's a catastrophic technical failure by the company.

However, it was worse a couple of months ago. They are slowly returning functions to the app. I find it easier to connect via Spotify. Still usable and the sound quality remains excellent.
