To be playing loud music

Am pottering around the house/garden and have my cd playing quite loudly - mainly because I knew next door would be going on school run and then playing out the front for the rest of the evening as they always do - however they are sat in their back garden chatting, and I now feel embarrased to turn it off (they haven't complained!) and also feel that I like my music - it might be loud but it is summer so AIBU?

Yes

Turn it off, think of other people.

Why would they have to complain first?

Sorry

SorenLorensen · 09/05/2008 16:22

It's one of the worst things about summer - as soon as the sun comes out I get treated to a cacophany of loud, invariably bad, music. I sat out this afternoon and was treated to the thump, thump, thump bass beat of a stereo three houses away. I could feel myself getting more and more wound up so I came in. I'm sure yours is very nice music - but it's yours - no-one else should be forced to listen to it.

So, sorry, yes, another YABU vote from me.

southeastastra · 09/05/2008 16:24

well we don't live in a police state so do what you want

Mungarra · 09/05/2008 16:42

I think you should turn it off. Why should their enjoyment of their garden be spoiled by someone else's choice of music.

soopermum1 · 09/05/2008 16:44

YABU, turn it off or lower the volume

mybrainaches · 09/05/2008 16:56

Get an ipod

AbbeyA · 09/05/2008 16:58

It is one of the worst thing about summer-I can't abide hearing other people's music. My real treat is to be in the house or garden, on my own, and have silence.

Rocky12 · 09/05/2008 17:25

Goodnes me, I thought I was the only one who really objected to loud music. Seems clear that I am not alone in thinkig this. Our neighbours have teenage children and they are great, their parents have told them we have small children and that they have to turn the music down.

One of my neighbours had a 21st birthday party for their daughter that lasted until 0300. To be fair they did drop a note through our front door warning us and telling us what a special occasion this was, what could we say? You are only 21 once. The children slept right through it and I took a sleeping pill otherwise I would have been awake all night but hey ho, one day that will be us!

Joash · 09/05/2008 17:29

Inconsiderate to play it loud enough for anyone else to hear - agree with the poster who said buy an IPOD.

2shoes · 09/05/2008 17:31

leave it on. why should the enjoyment of your house be ruined buy someone sitting in their garden.

AbbeyA · 09/05/2008 17:38

I hope that you are joking 2shoes!!

VictorianSqualor · 09/05/2008 17:45

Leave it on, turn it down slightly if you think that it's bothering them but I wouldn't turn it off.

cocolepew · 09/05/2008 17:48

I had to out up with Katie Melua coming from my neighbours garden the other day, why do people think we want to hear their shite music?

cocolepew · 09/05/2008 17:49

put up

BecauseImWorthIt · 09/05/2008 17:49

I can't believe you would think about asking MN what to do! You obviously know it's antisocial.

Turn it down and be considerate of your neighbours.

MadamePlatypus · 09/05/2008 17:51

have you heard of earphones? I think they could solve your problem.

jillyj · 14/05/2008 13:59

i love my house in the winter. but every blody summer the music next door goes on and i start to hate sitting in my garden. why do they have to do it. turn it off.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 14/05/2008 14:00

Get some wireless headphones if you give a shit.

Iklboo · 14/05/2008 14:01

YOu could always ask if the volume is OK or if they'd like you to turn it down a bit. They might be enjoying it too

MamaG · 14/05/2008 14:01

I think its extremely inconsiderate actually

jasper · 14/05/2008 14:06

You know the answer to this!
Turn it right down or off

Moorhen · 14/05/2008 18:20

If the music is at a level that would annoy you if neighbours were playing it, YABU.

Admittedly I am a noise bigot, but I agree that if you're playing it loud enough for someone outside to hear, it's too loud.

And I think Iklboo's heart is in the right place suggesting you ask if the volume should be turned down, but as for "They might be enjoying it too" - I have never EVER heard music from my neighbours that doesn't make me either want to weep or beat them with sticks for having such poor taste...

RainyWednesday · 14/05/2008 18:38

So am I the only person in the world who enjoys hearing music from other people's gardens? Along with the smell of barbecues and the sound of lawn mowers, it makes me think of summer
