Getting married Saturday and everyone is sick 😭

My partner and I are getting married on Saturday. I have had tonsillitis and ear ache the last two days (I have never had tonsillitis before). Both kids (3.5yo and 1.5yo) have had stinking colds, and now my partner is coming down with it too. As well as a cold, my youngest has had a temperature for two weeks as she got the cold off the back of some other hideous viral infection. And we have just got back from out of hours with the youngest as her ear drum has just perforated, so now she's on antibiotics that may give her diarrhoea.
I just wanted a nice day with friends and family and now it sounds like we're going to be turning up on zero sleep, ill, with a toddler who may or may not poo herself while bringing the rings down the aisle 😭. Am I being unreasonable to be concerned?!

Oh no! I do feel for you OP. However there's time for recovery before Saturday - you may get away with a few sniffles! Fingers crossed for you!

Overthebow · 04/02/2025 20:15

This time of year is terrible for illness if you have young children. You have until Saturday though so hopefully everyone recovers enough to go. Dose up in medicine and hot drinks and get lots of rest now.

Crunchymum · 04/02/2025 20:16

Deeps breaths.

There's a lot of time between now and Saturday.

Concentrate on getting yourself well.

Have a plan in place. Is there somewhere to rest at the venue should any of you need to? Or someone who can take a poorly child off to a quiet place for rest if they need it?

Pull-ups for the little one and hopefully the AB don't disagree with her?

You have a good few days to rest and recuperate so I'm sure you'll all be grand.

happinessischocolate · 04/02/2025 20:21

Loads of people have been off at work with various illnesses including tonsillitis these past couple of weeks and 99% of them have returned within 2/3 days so fingers crossed for all of you.

Itsanomen · 04/02/2025 20:22

Thanks all. I was just so looking forward to a great day seeing everyone and can see myself turning up even more haggard and snotty than usual. Yes we have chosen a venue with accommodation upstairs so we can take them for naps if needed, good thinking.

hi - I had a very similar situation. don't underestimate that if you try and relax these next days how adrenaline will
be your friend on the day. you may collapse afterwards but it will give you energy.
don't sweat the small stuff and let people help / delegate what you can

have a lovely special day

Thank you. I keep thinking if we could all get a good night's sleep then we'd be feeling much more positive, but currently the little one is waking crying every fifteen minutes poor little thing. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

I hope the people you've invited know they're at risk of catching all these hideous things from you, especially if any are immune compromised or have chronic illnesses or are elderly.

HappySeven · 04/02/2025 20:52

I'm sensitive to antibiotics and get diarrhoea when I take them but I'm ok if I take a spoonful of live yoghurt with them. It has to be live but it works for me, worth a try?

It won't solve everything but might make the day a little less stressful plus he nicer for your child.

You’re getting married in February and you have two very small children…….. this was almost inevitable, I imagine……

Raininginparadise2 · 04/02/2025 21:09

Aww OP that sounds stressful for you. Hope you still manage to enjoy your wedding and that you all feel better soon. xx

Did that make you feel better?

blueskiesandsun · 04/02/2025 21:10

I hope you all get better v soon. If little one has had a temperature for two weeks though have they been seen by a GP?

surreygirl1987 · 04/02/2025 21:10

I'm so sorry. The good thing though is that Saturday is still quote a while away so in theory there's plenty of time for everyone to feel well! Fingers crossed for you!

TinySaltLick · 04/02/2025 21:12

You have absolutely ages! Just relax as much as you can for a few days, maximise sleep and am sure everyone will be fine for Saturday. Children usually make a miraculous recovery within about fifteen minutes

Yes, saw them after five days of the first temp which was due to possible slap cheek, but she wasn't over that when she then got this cold and now the ear infection and so the temperature has just rolled along. She obviously feels rubbish but GP isn't concerned other than saying she's got a nasty ear infection and prescribing the antibiotics.

No, I thought I would lure them in and cough in all of their faces 🙄

Unless you or kids have sickness bugs, you will be absolutely fine!! Have an amazing day 🥰

SpiraliserSardinePasta · 04/02/2025 21:33

All four of us at home had similar this week OP - hopefully by Saturday you'll all be feeling much better (if a bit tired). Rest up as much as you can, regular painkillers/Calpol, lots to drink - will keep everything crossed that you are able to enjoy your wedding and have a wonderful special day.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/02/2025 21:35

On a serious note, do give people the opportunity to stay home. Go ahead with whatever you can manage and you can always throw a party in the summer.
Wishing you all the best. 🩷

Threeboystwocatsandadog · 04/02/2025 22:08

Recent family wedding. Bride’s father was admitted to hospital with chest pain in the morning. Groom’s parents and younger brother tested positive for Covid the night before. The dad signed himself out and parents attended anyway and a good time was had by all - except us. We stayed home. Too many germs for me.

Hope everyone is feeling better by Saturday and you have a great day.

Happyhippos123 · 04/02/2025 22:10

My DSs used to have amazing powers of recovery when they were little - the younger they are the more they can bounce back I think, so great chance that they'll be better by Saturday. You'll have adrenaline - and happiness! - to perk you up on the day, and plenty of helping hands to look after the kids.

I think it's a great time to get married - a bit of brightness and joy at a dreary time of the year, I'm sure your guests are really looking forward to it, despite your plans to infect them all.

Have a great day, bring spare tops just in case.

mnahmnah · 04/02/2025 22:13

Right. Think positive! It’s a few days away and it’s amazing how things can improve in that time!

Lots of sleep and fluids.
Take time off school and work to rest.
Olbas oil for the colds.
Keep the paracetamol and ibuprofen on rotation.

Longhotsummers · 04/02/2025 22:18

Your kids will rally with the excitement of the day and then everyone will collapse in a heap afterwards.
Have some rehydration sachets and make sure you relax until the day. It will be just fine and you will make lovely memories. Congratulations!

Januarybirthdaysarehardtomakefun · 04/02/2025 22:20

Are you in antibiotics? Double up for 24 hours.
