Getting married Saturday and everyone is sick 😭

My partner and I are getting married on Saturday. I have had tonsillitis and ear ache the last two days (I have never had tonsillitis before). Both kids (3.5yo and 1.5yo) have had stinking colds, and now my partner is coming down with it too. As well as a cold, my youngest has had a temperature for two weeks as she got the cold off the back of some other hideous viral infection. And we have just got back from out of hours with the youngest as her ear drum has just perforated, so now she's on antibiotics that may give her diarrhoea.
I just wanted a nice day with friends and family and now it sounds like we're going to be turning up on zero sleep, ill, with a toddler who may or may not poo herself while bringing the rings down the aisle 😭. Am I being unreasonable to be concerned?!

Take all the medication you safely can. You have a few more days and I also think the adrenaline will kick in on the day. Hoping it all goes wonderful for you.

Bananas are great for antibiotic diarrhoea for the toddler. We do 2 minimum a day for ds6 (extreme recurrent tonsillitis) or he misses 10 days of school each time... Good luck!

We got married when I was 8 months pregnant with DC2 and DC1 came down with a tummy bug three days before. Not the stress-free and relaxing day we had planned but memorable nonetheless! (Thankfully it was just a registry office with 2 friends as witnesses so no vulnerable guests at risk of catching it!). The funny thing was we had two celebrations later in the year with different friends/family and before both of those, and every anniversary since, one of the kids has been ill 😅 Clearly the idea of their parents being married makes them sick!

I hope the people you've invited know they're at risk of catching all these hideous things from you, especially if any are immune compromised or have chronic illnesses or are elderly.

How do you think immune suppressed and chronically ill parents and siblings of young children cope?! Living with children going in/out of different schools and workplaces etc.

Interestingly the ones I know don't seem to actually catch anything from their snotty germ riddled children any more often than anyone else. Yes they are more at risk and not downplaying that but a wedding in February is a risk whether or not the bride and her family are ill, as chances are everyone there will have been exposed to a mix of things in their normal lives in the days before as well as the staff at the venue.

I predict the kids will suddenly perk up on Friday night, right around bedtime, but your husband will require a medal for being the bravest soldier ever on Saturday. His near death experience will likely make it into his groom speech.

You and DP start taking loads of Vit D, Vit C, Magnesium and Zinc. Then DC all get multivits containing those (but not mega doses unless you find the appropriate age pill with it). Also go and get the Vicks First Response and start using it 4 times a day (amazing stuff). Then rest as much as you can, all of you. And cross your fingers.

madaboutpurple · 05/02/2025 00:55

I send my best wishes that you are all well on Saturday. I hope you can really enjoy your wedding.

Loads of time to recover op. Got my fingers crossed 🤞 antibiotics take 24hrs to start working.

Itsanomen · 05/02/2025 13:25

Baby definitely seems more cheerful now that her eardrum has burst so must be feeling better even if she is oozing crap all down the side of her head. Hopefully the rest of us rally too! Thanks for the well wishes ❤️

You’d be surprised how quickly little ones can rally. I know you’re not getting much sleep but if they’re the sort of kids who will chill in front of a movie, at least you can all lie on the sofa.
I would try a multivitamin for you and some fresh juices and vegetables. Probably won’t help but might perk you up and give you the placebo effect?
Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼

Just to update - we had a brilliant day. I alternated prosecco with lemsip and ibuprofen, and fortunately the antibiotics didn't cause a diarrhoea explosion for my little girl. Was ready for bed by 8pm but powered through. Thanks all!
