To think kids shouldn't wear bikinis?

I'm just browsing the kids swimwear range on the John Lewis app, and keep coming across bikinis for little girls.
I don't know, am I weird for thinking this isn't right.
If I had a daughter, I wouldn't want her to wear something like that at such a young age.

A bikini is a 2 piece swim suit with a gap in the middle.

I've put definitions from various leading dictionaries and Wikipedia earlier in the thread. Burqini/burkhini don't fit the definition as there is no visible gap. Sane as tankini. No gap.

What you are thinking of is a skimpy bikini. But that doesn't mean all bikini are skimpy. Some bikini are sporty and have modest cut top pieces and high waisted bottoms. Some with high cut legs, thongs or low cut legs. They are all bikini

When on holiday in southern Europe, most the non British little girls are in just bottoms anyway, I don't see the issue with bikinis or just bottoms for pre pubescent girls. Obviously at some stage then tops are required but I think people here overthink things. On a practical note, a rash vest is an excellent idea for sun safety!

Plus why does a small child need something cut to showcase a chest and make it look attractive, surely it's just functional?
I'm an adult. My costumes or tanikinis are functional, they are cute to cover not make my chest look attractive. Does that mean I don't need to wear one?

I assume little girls cover their tops because at some point it has to happen so it's less weird for it not to be an arbitrary age, or that arbitrary age is 3/4 Vs 9/13/15 depending on when you first get "breasts"

I was agreeing with you that not all 2 piece swimsuits are bikinis. 👍🏿

I hate restricted clothing or any kid, but it’s usual the girls clothes that have this issue.

The BI in bikini means 2. All 2 pieces are therefore bikinis

A tankini is a sort of bikini, commonly now just called a tankini.
